Dr. Sam Lam is irresponsible and unfit to practice medicine. He left the practice while I was still unconscious under general anesthesia and I was left alone with a couple of nurses.  It took time for the anesthesia to wear off and I nearly passed out as I walked to the restroom by myself with no assistance.  Where was he?  Where were the anesthesiologists he hired? If he had an emergency to tend to while I was still unconscious why could he not make sure an anesthesiologist was present at the facilities to make sure that I recovered.

I blacked out a few times on the way to the restroom to get changed from the gown and nearly hit my head on the toilet.  I was so uncoordinated and the room was practically spinning.  I never received an apology for him running out on me while I was unconscious.  Cosmetic surgeons who are self employed need to be held just as accountable as doctors in hospitals. My hope is that this is relayed to the appropriate authorities because Dr. Lam needs to be brought before them and warned and investigated for negligence before the American Medical Association or the Medical Board in Plano, Texas.

OMG... this guy is not exactly doing himself any favours here. Who does he think he is, a rockstar? Why would anyone "follow" a doctor? His ego is so insanely huge it's about to take over the world and deprive us all of oxygen. Look out!

You can't let this guy think that medical errors are not serious and can be concealed as he sees fit.  There are a lot of surgeons with a large PRESENCE online and there are others with a significant number of POSITIVE reviews. Dr. Lam is one of those with a large presence because is ridiculously good with social media (facebook, twitter, blogs, face forums, etc.). Here are a few pointers patients need to be aware of:

Point #1. Dr. Lam adjusts the settings (lighting, contrasts, coloring, etc.) in his before/after pics. If you look at some of the after pics some patients have different skin tone/color, different hairstyle, or even smiling only in the after pics to give their face more fullness and lift. Online pics are the best the docs have done, and the ugly they will never post. Inconsistent is what he is.

Point #2. Dr. Lam raves on how he is triple board certified but ask yourselves IN WHAT and how long did these certifications take? Dr. Lam works with fillers, fat graft, hair transplant, botox but his residency in otolaryngology not derm or plastic surgery where you will find the most technically skilled doctors trained in cosmetics, craniofacial and surgery on the body, burns, limb reattachment, and aesthetic surgery. Plastic surgeons are seen by soldiers from Iraq and firefighters for limb reattachment, live skin grafts as a result of burns. I've seen it all for myself and what these people do is out of this world! If I wanted to treat my sinuses, tonsils, or a nose job I would trust my board certified otolaryngologist. A few mini clinical workshops or even a 1 year fellowship in facial plastics does not replace a FULL residency in plastics. The point of fellowships is to add-to the fundamentals you learned in residency, not to give you a different career option because you realized that cosmetics makes good, easy money.

Point #3. This is one of the most stubborn and pushiest doctors you will ever meet. You could come in with lets say, wanting just a small amount of fat graft but just to cover up your eye bags. You make that appointment wanting to discuss the issue of eye bags, and during your consultation he skims over the eye bags and spends 95% of the time which you paid him for discussing other procedures which will benefit you. Most doctors shut it down once you refuse or express major hesitation once or twice, but Dr. Lam takes it to another level where he will relentlessly push and push and force you to listen to his gibberish on symmetry, balance, and he tries to rationalize verbally on why it works and why you need to get it done. When I refused the extra surgeries, the guy got frustrated and insisted I give him a good explanation on why I should not do it. I could not believe this guy. Its my face you idiot (thought it didnt say it!). When I brought up the issue of side effects thus why I want to make this procedure minimal he started to talk about how safe these procedures were and that I need not worry because I was in good hands and should get this entire set done. Most doctors need to talk their patients out of excessive procedures, not the other way around. Youre not placing an ad on Craigslist here, you are working with biological, living tissue, and injecting humans with artificial chemicals that may cause reactions or side effects. I told him this and he tried to argue with me and it was a pain because the guy wont shut up and he just doesnt get it. After everything hes said hes going on the internet making it seem as if hes warned patients of the side effects and all about safety. Whooaa Un-Freaking-Believable!!!

Point #4: Thinking of Dr. Lam? Be firm! If you want your eyes done for example, JUST DO YOUR EYES and dont let him delude you into thinking you need the entire face graft on the jaw, chin, cheeks, brows which you dont even wanted in the first place to justify that mother of all outrageous nearly 9000 fee for a full facial fat graft. You can get excellent localized fat graft for far less, even as low as 1500 or even less from a fully accredited PLASTIC SURGEON with better training and more years of experience. I will not post their names linked to this comment before Dr. Lam starts accusing these wonderful doctors of stealing his patients as competitors as hes already done. My positive reviews of these docs are distributed separately online though and posted for all to read. I advise patients to do your homework and meet your doctor FACE TO FACE, DO NOT PAY FOR VIRTUAL ONLINE CONSULTS. After surgery, doctors are obligated to do FOLLOWUPS IN PERSON. Photos by email are no substitute for physical exam of your face and assessment in person.

I could suggest he could get lipo for the baby pudge and hair transplant for his hairline, and get new eyewear thats more flattering to his round face (FYI. Rectangular and horizontal styles make faces look longer and thinner) and not those two miniature circled frames which look comical. Why does he think everybody agrees with his aesthetics?

Heres a tip, once he gets pushy with you, test him and ask him if hes that confident enough to accept responsibility if something were to go wrong, or if you can share what happens with the public if he fails. Its safe enough for you to risk your body and give him money but not for him to be held accountable. If he pushes you into getting a procedure you have major hesitations over, the only person at risk of losing is you. You lose your face, your money, and he gains cash, and the safety that his failure wont be publicized through his confidentiality orders through Medical Justice which he psychotically endorses on CNN because they have saved him 250K. Its all about the money, pay attention to what he does not what he says. Its the boasting loudmouth who grabs your attention first but the quiet, humble one with good results and experience who earns your respect.

I stand by EVERYTHING I stated about Dr. Samuel Lam in my prior email.

He did photoshop my pictures.

He did put silicone in my smile lines.

He did put way too much boxtox in my eyebrows and around my eyes until I could NOT open them all the way.

He did continue to hardsell me after firmly telling him numerous times I was not interested in any more procedures.

We are all former patients of Dr. Lam and not random people with a vendetta against him. The truth is that Dr. Lam's "Chickens have come home to roost," and now he is facing the consequences of his bad deeds. We as former patients are honestly trying to save people from the same fate as ours and Dr. Lam can lawyer up as much as he wants he will not silence us.

Dear Reader,

On Dec 31, 2009, I wrote this on a cosmetic surgery forum and to this day I stand by my words. I read this open letter to the public here on Ripoff Report and this sickens me coming from a medical professional who took an oath to do no harm but if you do harm accept responsibility. Dr. Lam, no more lies please! I still have to cry myself to sleep as I look in the mirror as I look back at this mutilated face that Dr. Samuel Lam has made. He has forever stolen my identity and I may never get that back as this is nearly impossible to fix, but I can share these words. To that little girl who is feeling insecure about her looks or to that older woman who is frustrated over that wrinkle, you are absolutely beautiful the way God made you! I want to share my open letter with the world and I hereby mention that everything written is 100% true despite what Dr. Samuel Lam will tell you.
 
BOTCHED PLASTIC SURGERY

I am several years out of Dr. Lam's fat grafting and this shameless doctor has mutilated my entire face with cysts or what looks like hardened lumps which is anything but fat--maybe scar tissue several years later after the surgery. The entire area where he grafted sticks out of the rest of the skin and 'pushes' the skin upwards. All of the fat has disappeared, but I most certainly don't look like I did before I saw him but instead am left with mutilated skin with hardened lumps in the grafted area. I have watched every single one of his videos and talked to him online. I agree, he responds to every single email and I thought I was special and what in front of me was a good doctor. WRONG! He is in fact, not knowledgeable but likes to make up science. He says that over time, his fat looks better, it "grows" and becomes beautifully blended. WRONG! Fat does not grow but it only gets resorbed. Worst of all, I got these massive lumps underneath the skin and this may be permanent as some of my doctors have said. I have had fat grafting done by other doctors and I have never in my life encountered this as I did with Dr. Samuel Lam. His solution to every nook and cranny is to fill fill fill. He doesn't know how to reverse or fix this problem because he is an inexperienced doctor.

Does this look good? NO! This careless man took thousands from my bank account and that wasn't enough for him to double check his notes and graft only areas we agreed to. Whats funny is that his markings on the day of the surgery differed from what we discussed, and what he grafted also differed. He took it on his own free will to inject fat all around my brows, and now I look like a very angry neanderthal with prominent brows. All of those hardened tissue is sticking out and pushing the skin forward. Apparently this is permanent and I can't get those massive hardened lumps out. My once beautifully scuplted cheekbones which I loved and other people have complimented on are now lumpy and unnatural looking. I had beautiful eyes and cheekbones and Dr. Lam was the first person I ever met that had a problem with them and wanted to do something about them. I never consented to the grafts he put in but something completely different. If the patient doesn't have a problem with a certain feature, why fix it? Thats exactly what a good doctor told me, but oh no not Dr. Samuel Lam. He thinks what he does to your face is much better than what you have naturally. I look older, more tired, and my face looks constantly puffy like I've been crying over a sad movie or just waken up with puffy eyes. Who gave him permission to do this? Does he even write anything down during consultations because obviously he has a terrible memory or takes in more patients than he can handle!!!

Dr. Samuel Lam you need to be ashamed of yourself and how dare you call yourself a doctor. You disfigued my face and mutilated me permanently with your botched fat grafting. Afterwards, you make yourself out to be a saint and say you were doing me a favour by trying to help me. Don't ever say that to a patient after being paid thousands of dollars. I don't go out anymore and spend most of my time as an indoor hermit thanks to your mutilation of my face. Don't make yourself out to be a saint in public by calling yourself a helper of people and charge exorbitant fees at the same time. I can't believe I let myself be mislead by your answering of emails, wonderful videos, sweet websites, comments like "Let me take care of you!" "You will love it!" When I met you in person you are a different person than your character online. I should have listened to my instincts by a man who says that most of his fat graft stays when he does not even follow up with every patient who has had fat grafted. Dr. Samuel Lam is nothing but a bold-faced liar and a professional mutilator of human faces. How does he even sleep at night after turning me into a freak of nature leaving with this destroyed face for the rest of my life? I can't and I want nothing more than my old face back! I want nothing more than to turn back the hands of time and never have watched his videos on YouTube and ended up sitting in his chair! He actually has a video on "Safety before Quality." A safe surgeon NEVER EVER does all fat grafting in one shot like he does and he is lying when he says hes more conservative than other doctors. That kind of plastic surgeon is someone who is arrogant and someone who gambles with your health. Safe fat grafting is about doing it in stages, always. This professional face mutilator knows nothing on both but only how to destroy people's lives and steal human identities. You have no idea on what botched plastic surgery can do to a person until you live through it and I wouldn't wish this on any one else on Earth, not even Dr. Samuel Lam who personally mutilated me.

This takes the cake!  Saying this doctor would photoshop!  He won't even photoshop to predict an outcome and I find it beyond kooky this poster is saying he photoshopped to make her look worse.  Anyone who ever sat in that chair for his photography knows that you're going to look pretty bad no matter what!  He hardly has to "help" anyone look worse.  That is the silliest thing yet!!!!   And furthermore he never suggests or uses silicone anyhwere except lips, acne scars when appropriate (that's what he's done for me) and he said I couldn't have that in my nasofolds because my case wasn't bad enough, or something like that.  Here now he says he doesn't use it anymore that way at all.   I just have to say this is the dumbest, most ludicrous insult anyone's dreamed up.   Thanks for the laugh at least, ggggggahd this one beats all.  He helped improve my acne scars by about 100%, but not perfect as he told me my scars will never be perfect.

To Anne, thank you for sharing . A lot of people came to know Dr. Samuel Lam from his online videos which he posts on various websites and I was one of them. I know you are a genuine patient of Dr. Lam because you just described him well. You come in to do a procedure and he pushes you to do others you never even thought of or dont want. You politely refuse but he pushes you again and again and that you should trust him because he is an artist. I also told reputable cosmetic surgeons what he told me I needed and some even laughed. This is followed by a grand tour of his center with the spa and the hair salon where they charge nearly $100 or so for one simple, blunt haircut? This isnt even Manhattan NY or Beverly Hills CA with famous stylists to the stars! Now I know why he went through that effort of showing me the place, its his business. Keep telling your story and dont be bullied down by him. I know some former patients were succumbed and had their websites removed. Thank you to Rip-off Report for not succumbing to his bullying. Thank you for being objective and also letting Dr. Samuel Lam write a rebuttal.

 To Dr. Samuel Lam of Lam Facial Plastics, you are a disgrace to the medical profession and you are the reason I no longer trust any doctor. Doctors are human and they make mistakes, but ethical doctors acknowledge, apologize, and take full responsibility for what they have done. They dont resort to gag orders to silence their patients. Who are we kidding here? You think its okay for the positive reviews to remain online but your failed patients have to suffer quietly in silence and not share their stories which may prevent this from happening to other patients. This letter you have written just made me realize how important it is to spread the word. You are continuing to lie and saying the source of all this is from a person who isnt a patient of yours and you have that persons identity. Is that so? Who is this person who was never a patient of yours but is just spreading lies about you for the fun of it? I believe this person because I had the same experience and he or she described you so accurately that only someone who has met you can know this because you have a few unique traits. You are driven by fame more than ethics and you constantly like to talk about your successes and what a caring doctor you are who likes to listen to his patients. You reminded me what a great listener you were while interrupting me mid-sentence. The irony.

You are now resorting to bullying to get your way. You may continue on with this with your attorney until the job is done no matter how long that takes. Some of your former patients will continue to spread the truth about your practice and your surgeries no matter how long that takes and you bet that includes me. I cant speak for all of us, but on my part I will continue on sharing my side to the public until you acknowledge your mistakes and take responsibility for what you did.

I appreciate my ability to respond to this remark.  First, I am very passionate about what I do and with the huge following that I have of loyal patients I have been very blessed.    The idea of my photoshopping a result is so insulting and ludicrous that it merits no response.  As far as Botox is concerned, I am always careful with placing it in the brow because that is a known problem (that the brows can feel heavy), and I always discuss that possibility with my patients.  As far as a hard sell is concerned, I like to make sure my patients understand that what I can offer is sometimes beyond what they appreciate.  I truly like to educate someone on what I can do, and I think I work harder to do that than my physicians out there.  I am sorry that this person has felt that way that this was a hard sell:  it was not intentional.  This response is a good example of someone not understanding what I can do, which I don't blame them as it is hard to understand without a detailed description of what I can do.  Again, I always try my best to do that.  The funny thing is she says that I put silicone in smile lines, which I don't do.  I have not done that in probably 5 years so to say that is another example of inaccuracy here.  My spa is another business venture of mine and I am very proud of my staff who work with me there.  They are simply excellent and for less than you spend on me they can do wonderful things.

As far as negative reviews on the Internet, I am happy to report after months of investigation with my attorney I have found the source of all the posts on the Internet to be absolutely false coming from a person who is not even a patient of mine.  I have that person's identity secure now and about to begin legal proceedings.  I am in active litigation to work on removing all of these patently false comments, including the ones that appear here on this Web site.  I am working on identifying every single post and every single person who posts (including this one) and will continue on with this with my attorney until the job is done no matter how long that takes.
