I took a new lawnmower in for repair under warrenty because it wouldn't start. When it was repaired they charged me over $100 because "the gas was over 30 days old". Gas is over 30 days old before it gets to the dealers pump! In addition, THEY are the ones who determine how old the gas is.
I knew the gas wasn't old because the gas I used to fill the mower tank was less than a month old, and it goes through at tank of gas every week mowing our small lawn three times a week. Also, I've started small engines without a problem after sitting over winter. "Old gas" is just an excuse to charge over a third the cost of the new mower in repairs. It takes several months of sitting for gas to plug a carberetor.
