In June, I bought a Makita Reciprocal Saw because it was small and fit my hand.  It was used twice; the first time when new.  I was cutting one piece of PVC plastic pipe and the saw barely had enough power to cut it and I thought it was because the battery was almost dead, but got the job done. 

I didn't have use for it again until October.  I put a charged battery on the saw and tried to cut a piece of wood.  The saw immitted a burnt smell immediately and went dead after a few seconds.  It had zero torque.  After cooling down, it starts, but has no torque for cutting without dying. 

Home Depot said it was past 90 days and contact Makita.  I went to Makita's website and they said any repairs on power tools was at the option of the company and they didn't have to repair or replace if they didn't want to. 

Because I live in Alaska and shipping is expensive, I will throw the saw away and lesson learned.  I'm out about three hundred dollars, what with the saw and extra batteries I purchased.  I will try and sell the batteries and recoup a few dollars. 

I won't sell this problem and pass junk on to someone else.  I will never buy another Makita and will replace the saw with another brand at another store and never Home Depot.  Shame on both companies for making and selling an obvious piece of junk.

"If inspection shows the trouble is caused by defective workmanship or material, Makita will repair (or at our option, replace) without charge." This was in General Warranty.

Above is what caught my eye.  My eyes read it as optional fixing.  My brain read it as optional fixing.  My thoughts was I was going to ship it back and it will run and they won't do a thing and say nothing is wrong and it will be a waste of money, because if you don't do more than press the trigger, it runs.  You just can't put any pressure on the blade or the motor quits. 

It doesn't matter, I bought a lemon and would have to pay to ship it off, from Alaska, and have enough money tied up in this product.  It was the first Makita brand I ever bought and the last and part of it is I don't think Home Depot is the best place to buy this type of item because they mass buy and who knows where they were made. 

They had gotten a bunch of tools in for Father's Day, so I went hoping for a sale.  I went in to buy a Milwaukee, but liked the shape of the Makita better.  I bought it four months ago and it's been out of its plastic case twice.  Quantity over quality.

I would like a refund, but that isn't going to happen, so lesson learned.  I've bought several power tools over the years and this is the first genuine lemon and people need to know about this saw.  It's a CXT 12 volt and not worth my time.  I had a Milwaukee for fifteen years and it was still working great when I sold it on a moving sale.

Can you please point us to the exact text on their site that states they didn't have to replace or repair something if they didn't want to.

As to  your claim, did they actually decline to provide warranty service? If so what was the exact reason they gave for not wanting to do it?
