iRobot Select with Roomba J7+ iRobot Select with Roomba My subscription was cancelled for non-payment. No problem. iRobot completely deactivates your robot so you can never use it again, and then sends you to collections to recover (2) years worth of monthly payments fees.

They always say "read the fine print". Well in this case its worth noting!

I signed up for the irobot select services which seemed like a great deal given how often the machines break. So for a nominal upfront payment and the lure of $29.00 a month to have a self cleaning robot vaccum its probably a decent deal. When I was unable to maintain my monthly payments my account was forwared to collections for over $1000.00. (The robot doesnt even cost this much) According to iRobot you cannot return the device. You cannot repay the arrears. You can never use the device is now "Bricked", even after you settle the debt in collections.

So? let me get this straight. 1. You put it in your terms and conditions that users cannot mobilize and file a class action lawsuit. (2) Users must seek arbitration (3) I can never use this device again (4) I owe you a predtermined fee which is the remaining months owed from the time the services is cancelled. (Example. I signed for 24 months. I paid for 4 months.) So you're sending me to collections to collect on 20 months of services considered unpaid.  (5) I am not allowed to catch up on my payments and reactive the robot.

I'm not a guy who's disgruntled or vengeful. I lost my job and was unable to pay for a couple months. Now I'm being saddled with over $1000+ because i couldnt make the payments on a robot vacuum. I will be filing a notice with the FTC as well to complain of "Deceptive" Business Practices" which should be considered predatory. This value of this robot is NOT compensatory to the amount in collections further devalued by the inablity to ever own it, however being required to pay for it.

If you had read the contract, you would have seen that you are not buying or leasing the robot; it's basically a subscription with a time commitment, like satellite TV or something.  I'm not sure why anyone would agree to these terms; you would be better off just financing it with a credit card over that same time period, and you would actually own the machine at the end.  Next time, read the contract carefully before agreeing to anything that involves a time commitment.  My experience shows that most of the time, contracts without a time commitment are a much better option.
