Janis Engineering James Spinnenweber Failed to complete any work for money paid Tallahassee Florida

Janis Engineering and James Spinnenweber were the Engineering Firm of record for our home build, after the builder failed to pour grade beams and built a non engineered knee wall/cripple wall on a structural load bearing wall, we contacted Janis Engineering and James Spinnenweber to review the build and design a fix for the cripple wall and missing headers. James Spinnenweber conducted a site visit on February 14, 2024 collected $500. A week later after reviewing additional photographs we provided, James Spinnenweber sent us an invoice for additiona $1200.00 for a designed repair of the knee wall and missing headers. After waiting 6 months we asked for our money back or for the documents we contracted and paid for. James Spinnenweber contacted us via email and stated our request was harassment. James Spinnenweber then had an attorney contact us to sign a release of liability and would only refund $1200.00 of the $1700.00 paid to him. We have filed an official complaint and are now taking James Spinnenweber to Small Claims Court in Leon County Florida. Terrible business, poor communication, fails to complete any work, over charges for work not even preformed. Hired an new engineer and had documents in 2 weeks for $500.00
