Juan Hernandez, owner of J&M Pool Plastering destroyed my property. The day after promising to fix the problems he quit via text message! Telling me to "finish the job myself" What!!!??? Not only was there MUCH MORE to be done before the job was finished but what was done so far was HORRIBLY WRONG. His consultation was very promising and he was relentless about being chosen for the job. But once his flimsy and vague contract was signed and downpayment was received, I didn't see him again until he wanted the final payment. He popped in 1 day for a few minutes but that was it. He was very hard to communicate with. He didn't care about complaints when things were being done COMPLETELY WRONG. He would just man-splain down to me and get combative. Problem is, the crew didn't speak a word of English so all communications had to be done via google-translate! They were doing a cookie-cutter pool renovation despite my having specific requirements and paying thousands extra for them. They did the bare minimum to save money and cut every possible corner. Starting with doing the tile 1-2 inches down from the coping! The large gap of grout immediately started cracking and crumbling causing WATER SEEPAGE.  Then, even though I paid for a full coping re-do, they tried just scraping a little grout off the top of the coping rather than removing it. I had to FIGHT to get them to remove the old damaged grout & mastic which was what was discussed before the job started. Then when they filled it, they lied and said white was the only color option and that they would "add sand" to color it. So, I ended up with white and orange coping grout and mastic! Besides being ugly and garish, they also left un-filled gaps and holes and cracks allowing for MORE WATER SEEPAGE. Later I found out that there is an entire color chart to choose from. They lied so they could use product left over from another job to save money.  Then the pool was supposed to be brought up to be more shallow...so much that the bottom step would be eliminated. I was paying thousands extra for this to make the bottom of the pool easier to reach and clean. But they didn't fill it enough and the step remained, defeating the point of raising the floor.  Then the worst part is that I also paid thousands extra for the shape to be rebared and shaped round at the bottom...again, for easy cleaning. They tried to skip this entirely and I had to stop production to fight to get them to do it properly. Then they placed the rebar SO HIGH that it literally made a RAMP that blocks swimmers from being able to get near the edge of the pool without scraping their toes and knees! And the super high rebar went over the pool light covering it completely. But instead of re-doing it correctly, they just cut the rebar and left the light SUNK IN which left a bowl cutout below it! It collects dirt which has to be scrubbed out regularly and blocks the light from reaching across the pool. Then when they did the expensive pebble plaster, they did the mix wrong causing it to crumble away every single day in the pool robot basket even months after being applied. And the bottom bubbled from the bad mix so they got in and smaked the bubbles with a trowel to pop them. This turned the bottom of the pool into a muddled mess. The brand new plaster is coming up in fistfuls!  Now the issue of the concrete pool deck that was supposed to be wrapped around the fence posts to match and butt up to the fence line and be stamped and stained to look like wood. First of all, they framed it with straight lines rather than wrapping the fence posts...which means an 8 inch gap where it should be against the fence, They did this to cut costs in materials and labor. The big problem with this...besides being ugly...is its a 3 foot drop off a retaining wall! So, if anything falls down, it's lost forever. I've had to spend hundreds in wood and paint and decorative rocks to rig the 80+ foot empty space to make it look proper. And the concrete was stamped so badly that it doesn't look like wood. The stamp didn't imprint in half the space, and where it did imprint it is broken and chunky looking. And there are cracks and chips and missing topping throughout the full length of the pool! And then to make it even uglier, the workers walked across it leaving black boot prints all the way down one side! He subbed out the staining to a couple of guys and didn't tell me they were coming. When they showed up and the gate wasn't open, they angrily beat and kicked it so hard they broke the lock...which cost me more money to replace and have no lock for about a week. And I'll have to hire someone to fix the broken wood framing on the gate. His workers complained, via google translate, that Juan didn't tell them any of the stuff I paid extra for...that they were told it was a basic pool re-plaster... and they were angry with him for causing them to have to re-do work. They also complained that Juan wasn't paying them. That they had to work off a debt Juan charged for the privilege to have US Work Visas...and after the job "ended" he sent them back to Mexico! They were working in 100+ degree weather but when Juan heard I was taking down water and ice to them every day, he got angry and told me I 'Was no longer allowed to take them water...that they were used to the heat and would be fine". What a monster. I did it anyway which made them very grateful.  Since he refused to finish the job or fix any of the stuff he did so badly, I've been trying to scramble to fix things before the pool gets too much water damage to be repairable. I've spent thousands on a coping reset, wood, paint, rocks. And the search continues for someone to fix the bad corner/rebar fiasco, bad pebble plaster, bad concrete & staining. Problem is, no one wants to touch his hideous work! They all say it's a complete re-do and will cost $40-50,000. which is more than the original remodel because they have to rip everything out and start from scratch!  Now this monster is threatening me if I don't pay him the final payment for a job he not only did unbelievably bad...didn't finish...and quit leaving me completely screwed. I'm not paying him to do work other companies are having to do for him. So, now I'm suing him. Adding to my stress and costing me even more money. Juan Hernandez of J&M Pool Plastering is a con-artist plain and simple.  *Also note: He keeps changing addresses. He also advertises under these addresses: 2765 Kingsley Rd.
