Marino Patrick Roynard Angels Prades-Sapienza John S. Sapienza Michael Selmer Joshua W. Tumulty Robert Waddell LIVS and Dominic Marino

AVOID THIS VET AT ALL COSTS. THEY EFFECTIVELY KILL PETS BY PRESCRIBING UNNECESSARY, HARMFUL PROCEDURES TO RUN UP BILLS. ITS ALL ABOUT THEIR BOTTOM LINE.

I have been a dog owner for decades and never seen such terrible behavior on the part of a vet.

My pet was less than ten years old, healthy and seemed to have a single isolated issue which is typically easily treated. Their vets were dismissive about my assessment and decided to go ahead with procedures that left my pet cripped and suffering. Naturally they billed me thousands of dollars in the process. Some of their people in front were courteous but the criminal behavior but after the fact I couldn't get a doctor on the phone without threatening to sue.

Since this happened I have requested copies of records and seen other victims problems with LIVS and Dominic Marino come up on the internet. Here is the sum total of their offenses:

LIVS under the leadership of Dominic Marino, Long Island Veterinary Specialists has:

-Crippled and effectively killed pets by prescribing and billing for unnecessary and harmful procedures in order to run up customer bills

-Said they could solve problems to sell services and run up bills that clearly would not help the pets in their care

-Been investigated for corruption while bidding for police contracts

-Lied about who performs surgeries; Marino claims that he does it himself and offloads the work to residents but bills as if he is doing the work himself

-Killed dogs to avoid having to show the results of botched minor surgeries to their owners

-Bullied employees and residents with personal and legal threats to avoid negative reviews online

-Fail to provide services such as overnight monitoring which people pay for regardless

-Routinely have techs and relatives perform anesthesia, MRI, CT, and surgeries when they claim licensed vets are doing the work

-Pulls and alters medical records in the face of investigations from the NYSED which is the licensing agency for veterinarians

-Pays other veterinarians on commissions (no wonder they seem to have an incentive to run up bills, they do)

-Uses mostly part time employees to avoid paying taxes and benefits

-Dominic Marino has been sued by multiple former partners and employees and seems to be in lawsuits based on LIVS' conduct with multiple parties

-Commonly prevents owners from seeing anything beyond the front area to keep people from seeing the squalid conditions of where their pets are being kept- they said pets would be kept in runs but they're really kept in tiny cages often in their own defecation

-Clearly paid off Yelp and other companies to manage their social media and try to post articles on wikipeida/etc to make it seem like they are conducting groundbreaking research (see the wikipedia history for the wikipedia user who started the Long Island Veterinary Specialists wikipedia page, they also made a bunch of articles glorifying LIVS and Marino which have virtually all been deleted or reduced Marino's name to random footnotes

This is sickening and emotionally draining to write out but people need to know why they need to avoid LIVS at all costs. Find any other vet.

Here are some documented news stories and lawsuits that have been filed that show up illustrating their terrible actions:

Monsters. Criminals. Marino should be in prison. Golden, Loughin and half the staff should be in jail.

AUTHOR: Jeanne - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, October 05, 2020

My neighbor worked there and was eye witness to the horrors of what they did to the animals - and how they lied and swindled the clients. It is sickening that they have not been investigated, prosecuted, arrested, and shut down. Do not bring your dog or cat there - you will leave with a dead or injured pet and a ridiculous bill and your pet will suffer horribly. The most evil and most charming and polite people you will ever meet - smooth smooth smooth talking salespeople but the Dr. Joseph Mengele's of the vet world.

They will charm you, rob you, and inflict pain, suffering, and death on your dog or cat. I am certain and my neighbor was certain that Dominic Marino and his inner circle like Catherine Loughin and Jill Faber were legitimate psychopaths. They fit the criteria in that they are very polished and charming and convincing, have no moral regret, will do anything to get money from you and max out your insurance and credit, and either enjoy harming the animals to do this or are just coldly indifferent to it and can justify it as a means to enrich themselves as they feel they deserve. Like any fraud mill, in order to stay in business, they front some legitimate vet services as well such as opthamology which is legit there and then use that as a front to swindle and harm so many others.

Marino is a local who launders his ill gotten gains through many local businesses and buys an interest in small strip mall vets across the island as a method of funneling new victims to his murder chamber for profit. Your local vet is probably getting a cash referal if he sends you to LIVS. They claim to have the only MRI on the island but it is in a trailer in their parking lot and is not inspected or properly maintained or operated. Read the news to see about dogs that have been killed or crippled in LIVS MRI - just check the NY Post or News 12 Long Island. I cant believe this is still continuing 8 years after my neighbor left there.

Thank you for posting your story and allowing me to reply. I hope this saves other people the horrors they will experience if they trust LIVS. You can never get your pet back once it has been killed. Avoid the staff especially Catherine Loughin and Dominic Marino. Every decent vet quit the place 15 years ago except for the opthamologist because he is a part owner.

CRIMINALS / Did the same thing to our family pet / Long Island Vet Specialists is a FRAUD MILL

AUTHOR: Susan - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 23, 2020

They did the same thing to us. Damaged my dog's kidneys beyond repair in a procedure that was sold to me under false pretense. The procedure was not actually appropriate for my otherwise healthy dog but was a lot of money for LIVS $$$$ They had unsupervised residents and untrained techs perform the procedure - which should have had no impact on his kidneys - but they made errors that permanently damaged his kidneys and other areas - and caused him pain and an agonizing death. There was no appropriate supervision. Horrible place. A Mill. My baby is gone forever because of LIVS and his last days on Earth were a horror because of Long Island Vet Specialists (LIVS).

Dr. Catherine Loughin mortally wounded my dog by selling me procedures that every vet in the world has said were CRIMINAL. She will literally destroy your dog or cat to defraud money from you.

AUTHOR: Jen - (United States)

POSTED: Saturday, September 12, 2020

I am so sorry for the sad losses people suffer at the hands of Long Island Vet Specialists which is essentially a fraudulent money mill. After the death of my dog there recently, I have done a lot of research in the past 4 weeks and can shed some light on your complaint and comments - all of which are sadly true. Bottom line - they are fraudulent - they misrepresent -they harm animals and families in Nassau County - they should be closed down and the vets involved in the fraud should have their licenses revoked. None of this will happen however. I went to LIVS because they claim to have an army of great specialists. It is all false advertising and a facade.

My appointment ended up being with a doctor named Catherine Loughin who misrepresented her expertise and convinced me that my dog should have disc surgery or she would decline drastically, and that the disc surgery was easy and safe. Loughin filled me with fear to convince me to agree. She is NOT EVEN CERTIFIED for some specialties where she claims expertise and certification - such as in this case. My dog, I learned after the fact, had nothing more than pulled muscles from playing to much over the weekend. However, it was too late because Dr. Loughin had destroyed her. This doctor is not just incompetent -

I believe she has the qualities of a psychopath - she is charming, convincing, polished, smooth and highly highly manipulative and deceitful. She engenders your trust by making you think she has expertise and has found things other doctors cant find and that if you dont listen to her your pet will suffer horribly. Then she sells you thousands of dollars of procedures - even offering to have LIVS extend credit to you to pay for the procedures (at 30% interest). It is a total sales scam. Loughin, at the behest of her business partner (and boyfriend) Dominic Marino, tries to sell you as many procedures and tests as she can, manipulating you into giving her as much money as she can get (she gets a fixed percent of each dollar from Marino). Then she critically injures your pet - paralysis, punctured organs, lacerations, wounds that should not occur from these simple procedures. She is highly charming and convincing and pre-meditated.

She is soft spoken before the fact - and then hostile after when you question what happened or all the additional things she starts trying to sell. There are differing opinions among former employees regarding if the injuries are inflicted on purpose or just through complete incompetence and neglect but the next step is the same either way. She then tries to extract as much money from the distraught owner to "fix" the damage she caused until the pet is dead after a dragged out painful period. She learned this practice from her boss Dominic Marino who is notorious in the industry for this conduct. It is an unregulated industry so very difficult to bring this to justice. The licensing board in NY has never shut a facility or revoked a license in 50 years and has never opened a hearing on the hundreds of complaints against this place.

The board is a handful of third rate vets and administrators notorious for taking bribes and payoffs in addition to their salaries. LIVS Chief Administrative Officer Brian McKenna actually sits on the board and blocks every complaint against LIVS for 20 years. Some victims and employees claim the injuries are inflicted on purpose in order to sell even more procedures and that Loughin is a pure psychopath as is Marino - charming during the sale - then intimidating and cold while selling you repair services "which are the only way to get your dog back to normal" (normal being how your dog was before LIVS touched her). Others say it is just because they have COMPLETELY UNTRAINED techs and residents working on the pets and that they let completely UNCERTIFIED and UNTRAINED and UNQUALIFIED people operate the anesthesia.

They have chemically destroyed countless pets with overdoses during routine procedures. The industry is so unregulated that they get away with it. They may have more "anesthesia accidents/incidents" than any vet hospital in NY State. Unfortunately these facts are known through the vet community and confirmed by victims and former LIVS doctors alike. Sadly, consumers do not know about it until it is too late - LIVS markets and advertises in the area, on Channel 12, and on the internet, and in Newsday and through advertisements designed to look like news articles when they are not. They pay to have fake good reviews written and bad ones deleted. Most criminal organizations have a legitimate front to make the scam more workable and LIVS is one of these.

They have two good specialists in the area of ophthalmology and this gives credibility to the rest of the organization but the rest of the place is smoke and mirrors and a criminal scam. 15 years ago there were a few other decent doctors there but they all left in disgust at the crimes. All I can say is I am so sorry for all the victims of this place - canine, feline, and the families that loved them. I do not know how Long Island Vet Specialists (LIVS) remain in business - or how Marino and Loughin and McKenna remain out of jail. There are plenty of good alternatives in the area and no reason whatsoever to go to LIVS if you care about your pet at all. Thank you for filing this complaint and for giving me a chance to support it. Nothing will bring my amazing Princess back to me but I hope having this review can help protect others from Dr. Loughin and Dr. Marino and LIVS. It is like a Steven King horror movie behind the scenes/facade at LIVS. Why wont the authorities shut this place down?

Long Island Vet Specialist Killed Our Family Dog Also. They swindled us. Total Fraudsters.

AUTHOR: Sam - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, September 07, 2020

They did the exact same thing to our dog. They coerced us through fear and false diagnosis and claims to agree to let them perform tests on our dog who had a minor stomach issue and diahreah. They convinced us he needed thousands of dollars in tests and maxed our credit cards. They even had us sign a credit agreement with them so they could charge us a fortune. A resident and a Dr Loughin terrified us into believing the dog needed all sorts of procedures. We handed over our dog and six hours later he was destroyed - not by an illness but by the procedures they performed.

Then, they tried to sell us thousands more dollars in services to treat and cure the DAMAGE THEY HAD DONE. Total fraudsters - total liars. We got him out of there right away and to another vet who said the dog was clearly injured by the people at LIVS, but the damage was so severe and there was no chanc to save our beautiful baby. LIVS still charged our credit card thousands of $$$. STAY AWAY if you love your pet. They are monsters - fraudsters - criminals. We have heard horror stories about the place since then from 50 different people. How does the state let them stay open?

Thank you for creating this report - we only wish we had seen it sooner. Our dog would still be alive if we had not gone to LIVS.
