I recently found a online community who are part of a group related to a non-profit and are claiming to be Native Americans descended from a Native American community present in Texas  from the early 1800's. This community and the non-profit were both formed in modern times by J.C. Thompson. Thompson has ties to another group of people claiming Native American heritage and historical continuity in Missouri called the Northern Cherokee Nation. This group is under investigation for acquiring $300 million in government contracts designated for minorities and Native American Business. Thompson left this organization to form the same type in Texas and they have been mired in controversy ever since. This group has been exposed by ABC news and disavowed by the Cherokee Nation and other federally recognized tribes.
