After COVID hit hard in mid March and the US started locking down and forcing everyone to work from home or remotely, I had extra time on my hands and signed up for a pen pal writing site called PenPalWorld. On there I met a girl by the username of Remzie (never found out her real name) and she told me this story how she just came out of an romantic relationship and how about a few months ago she met this dude on the same PenPalWorld pen pal site and they wrote to each other back and forth for couple months and decided to start long distance thing and eventually met up in Seattle when he was off on break from the Army or whatnot and hit it off but then later on due to some of her own insecurities it kind of pushed him away and things fell apart...





Long story short I invited her to Dallas to which she initially agreed, and then because she told me she dated a lot of guys whom worked previously in IT and that she herself was somewhat of a computer geek that I decided to introduce her to some Steam games and other indie based PC games such as Defcon, KataGo, Besiege etc... in particular she was telling me how she promised to give Besiege a try and that would sign up for the Steam account in order to redeem the free Humble Bundle Besiege activation license key that I had purchased for her... For weeks she told me that she promises to give it a try, and even one weekend telling me directly that she "swears" will play Besiege that weekend and let me know all about it afterwards. That never happened. Later she admitted she broke her promises time after time and had no excuse since she was also working from home and admittingly bored out of her mind most of the day.

One weekend I invited her to play some online games with me, even introducing her to OGS (Online Go Server) which is a purely browser based game HTML5 and needed no install, no registration, no download etc... and also suggested to her that we could play a round of Defcon and/or Besiege on Steam since both these other indie games are multiplayer LAN/WAN etc. She agreed to all of this and then flaked out on me and didn't even give courtesy of an explaination...

The ultimate supreme irony in all of this is that she had earlier lamented the fact that she percieved the guy who dumped her to be selflish, that he didn't leave her with closure after 'using' her be it emotionally and/or physically and/or leading her on with great expectations etc, and that he basically ghosted her without even leaving a trace and no explaination, feedback, nothing... The crux of the matter was her feeling hurt that he not only decided to lose interest in her but also the way it happened was that he didn't even bother to help her soften the blow by taking the time to at least tell her what went wrong or to give it another go etc... The bottom line is relationships are messy and matters of the heart are not always compartmentalize-able... yet it goes to show if she cannot even be bothered with keeping her own promises to try a PC game or to play a round online multiplayer with me, then she has no grounds to cast judgement upon others for doing the same in regards to being emotionally and mentally stingy and selfish etc...
