So my friend said she recently bought this air purifier vacuum and that if she showed it to 12 people then they'd let her get hers for free. A door to door rep would just need to come out to demo the cleaner. She asked if I'd watch just to help her out so I said yeah. I want to help out my friend and I don't even have to buy the thing, so no harm no foul.

I ended up buying the thing and the place tried to recruit me to work for them when they overheard me talking about my work to my husband and friend. They asked me to come to an event they had because they said if I showed the demo to 12 people that I would get mine I bought for free or reimbursed but I have to go to the event. They said I could be a good fit for their manager position and that they start off making around 10k a month. So I started to get skeptical but I felt if I really could make as much money as they were saying then I need to go to the event just to be sure and not miss out any possible opportunties.

So before the event I looked over my cancellation papers and it said that I had to sign and date the cancellation by the third business day at midnight and mail it by midnight. So I signed the thing and put it in the mailbox because they said I don't have to own one to work for them, and I am so life busy that I ended up not using the vacuum  They then received my mail but because I put it in the mailbox at my house and then the mailman had to pick it up the next day and then deliver to a post office and then the mail had to be sorted to be post stamped and sent, the post stamped date said it was 2 days after the mail by day. So the managers beat around the bush and called me and told me that they're going to submit my cancellation as late and base it off the post stamp and not when I actually signed and mailed the papers. So now they refuse to return my air purifier and I got upset when they beat around the bush with calling me with a resolution. They kept texting me from their personal phones saying they'd call and then they wouldn't. And one guy (who was their regional manager) even texted me at 10 at night bragging about how many air purifiers he sold that night and then told me he's not calling me tonight and he'd call tomorrow. So at this point they're toying with me.

The next day the same guy did not call me, I had to reach out to a manager and admin to try to get him to call. The regional manager then TEXTED ME AGAIN to say that his schedule is spoken for. So I tried calling and this guy would not answer. He then texted me later in the day "ready". So I called and he told me he's not calling me a liar but that I have good motive to lie and that he's going to go off the post stamped date of when usps processed the mail and not the day that I mailed the cancellation forms. After a debate I told him that we probably both agree that I shouldn't be doing their referrals now to get the thing for free so where do we go from here? He told me he wouldn't allow me to do the referrals anyway and then said that when you do the referrals you have to sell 2 out of the 12 anyway, which the sales guy who sold this to me did not say at all. The sales guy kept saying that you just have to show it to 12 people and that some people just do their demos to get the free incentives anyway and that's fine. So the regional manager then said that he's not going to let me cancel, and that he'll speak with the store manager that sold us the product and see if he feels comfortable to be around my husband instead of me and do demos with him. He said that if he does agree to this, that he'll only allow a specific person to come with husband for each demo because "he wants to keep an eye on us" to not sour his sales. I was completely shocked at how this company runs.

People need to know about this because there are too many loopholes that they've created in their favor to stick you with a bill and not let you out of a sale. Not only does this place sell a terrible product to you, they continuously brag about all their money too and try to convince you to work for them. I can't believe I fell for any of it in the first place and by the time I realized I wanted out and mailed my paperwork to cancel, they're holding it against me. Beware!!!!!!

Door to Door Sales

AUTHOR: Carey - (Puerto Rico)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 06, 2024

As already pointed out, your first mistake was getting involved with an mlm company that hawks overpriced vacuums door to door.  While the product may be good, it is NOT worth the prices because there are so many layers of commisson built into that price, as multiple people need their cut.

RE: the mailing.  Again, the previous poster is correct in that the envelope must be postmarked by the cut-off date.  Sticking it in your mailbox and hoping for the best does not cut it.

What you described about being misled with the program of you doing demos is similar or the same as stories all over the internet.  Even if they had gotten the form in time and you had sold the 2, they would still probably find something wrong with the sale, i.e. person does not have A+ credit, both spouses were not present, you name it!

Future-going, do not deal with door to door peddlers with questionable sales technique and although you didn't do this, never let strangers into your home.  I hope you enjoy your rainbow.

BTW: did you or your friend verify the salesperson had a permit to solicit in Mesa?  Mesa requires one.

Seriously?

Apart from the idiocy of falling for an MLM scheme, you seem to think that somehow the date you dropped something in your own mailbox is relevant. For legal purposes, the postmark date is presumed to be the mailing date. If it sat in your mailbox for a week, that's your problem. For important things like this, you need to be going to a post office and watching them stamp the envelope.
