Safebound Moving & Storage uses deceptive business practices, lies about pricing, holds items hostage unless you pay whatever they feel like charging you in cash.  I am writing this on behalf of my elderly parents who asked for my help.  In December 2021, we received a binding estimate for an interstate move from Safebound for $2,200 based on 400 cubic feet.

The agent explained that he could look at photos of items to be moved on the MLS site where my parents home was for sale to assess the cubic feet and cost. The agent sent an email with the binding estimate, stating that they could "lock in this low price" of $2,200 with a deposit.  The estimate was signed and a $660 deposit was provided.

On 1/20/22, another company subcontracted by Safebound, Roy's Moving Company came with a truck to pick up the items. They loaded everything in the truck and closed the doors.  Then raised the price to $5,606 saying the cubic feet increased to 1,000 although there was no proof it was that high.  The choice was to move everything off the truck or pay that amount.

They demanded partial payment in cash.  Several phone calls to Safebound to receive an inventory list and justification for the additional charges went unanswered.  We did receive an email from the company with the $2,200 estimate and no new paperwork.

On 2/5/22, we received a text from GM Van Lines demanding $1,973 in cash to deliver the belongings to their home in Fort Myers, FL which would occur the following day. The movers arrived and were shown the binding estimate for $2,200.  We lawfully refused to pay any more money towards this scam.  The movers then drove away with all the belongings and said there would now be a charge to store the items and to redeliver on top of the $5,606.  We called the police.  The police stopped the truck and the movers came back to the house but refused to unload the truck unless they got $1,973 in cash.  They advised us to dispute the charges later.

On 2/6/22 and 2/7/22, I called each company to get a straight answer and was given the run around.  I called Safebound several times and was given excuses as to why the manager or someone to help hadn't called back.  Finally I was told that they did not over charge us and would not be refunding any of the money.  This company has fake reviews online, has paid customers to leave positive reviews according to several who stated this in their BBB reviews.  There are currently 99 consumer complaints against this company on the BBB and 36 with the Federal Enforcement Division, FMCSA, which is part of the Department of Transportation.  These people are scammers, low lifes and should be shut down.  Do not hire this company.
