I contracted with Shawn Lanier Carolina Pool Company to install the concrete work for a fiberglass inground swimming pool to include the patio, pool beam, coping waterfall, replacement waterfall and pool cover vault.

Issues include:

Patio - there are 50 plus blemished in the stamped concrete work as a result of not cleaning the form correctly and applying enough release on the form to create a clean impression. The color does not match the samples as promised. A gray color was selected and the outcome is tan despite two attempts to correct the finish. The steps are not finished on the leading edge and the overall shape is not according to the agreed upon drawings. - Estimated at $7,500 to correct

Pool Beam and Pool Cover Vault - the cover vault was built 24" off spec and resulted in an unsightly bridge which cost over $1,000 in materials to make aesthetically pleasing at my expense and was installed unevenlly and with improper adhesion and grouting technique for an outdoor application and is not level and pools water. The 24" off spec also made the patio non-functional at the vault end by shortening the deck space from 8' to 6' for proper lounge chair placement as specified in the original drawing. - Estimated at $5,000 to cover cost and correct.

Coping Waterfall and Replacement Water Fall Wall - A coping waterfall was in the original specification. The installers were provided the waterfall unit prior to concrete work. They missed installing it prior to the concrete curing and left a water lead protruding from the deck. The foreman forgot. He then said that he thought we were building a waterfall wall at the edge of the pool which was never shown on any plans prior to installation. In order to salvage the mistake, I gave them permission to rectify the situation by building a waterfall wall which went from a $275 feature to a $7,500 mistake as they expected me to pay for their mistake. The wall was not erected to code. The rebar was not secured to the patio floor and did not properly and safely anchor the 60" wall to the ground. This was cited by the town department of engineering and a passing certification was denied for the pool as it created an imminent hazard. The fountain had to be secured with a come-along safety strap to hold the wall in place until it can be repaired for $10,000. - Estimated at $10,000 to repair

Over $22,500 in repairs are required to bring the pool to spec per the town and the original plan as provided by Shawn Lainer of Carolina Pools.
