My wife and I were interested in refinancing our home and connected with Sonya St. Jacques at C&F Mortgage. When we hopped on a Zoom call, we could immediately see from the look on her face that she did not want to help us due to the color of our skin.

She started asking questions of whether we had good jobs and saying that fast food restaurants don't count. She was surprised when we stated that we both work in financial services and she was surprised that "people like us" have these jobs. She asked if we had a criminal background as this could be an issue for us as well (we don't).

After it was clear the call was not going well, she started railing about "woke" culture and how America is going to hell because of immigrants and black people (who are terrible drivers, she made a point of saying).

I'm saddened that this level of racism still persists today and hope Sonya gets the counseling she needs to deal with her anger.
