In late March 2020, I noticed that my credit score at TransUnion and Equifax dropped 100 points. As I reviewed the report I saw that my outstanding bank loan was double what it actually was. Then I noticed that SunTrust had sent into the credit bureaus a closed Home Equity Loan from 2015. They showed the account as open and having six figure balance.

I called the SunTrust to get this sorted out and after clocking 18 hours of phone time being passed around like a Raggedy Ann doll, I finally got a Customer Service Agent to admit the account was closed and they would get this sorted out with the Credit Bureaus, . Three weeks later, still no correction on my credit score with the Credit Bureaus. I called them up again and spent another six hours being passed around from one CS Agent to Another.

Each one having no record of my calls from three weeks before. Folks, this is a horrible, non-responsive financial institution that couldn't care less about resolving errors no matter how much impact it has personally on their customers. Customers mean nothing to them. I have been a customer of theirs for over 35 years. Means nothing. I would avoid them like the Corona Virus. They are completely irresponsible and their banking license should be pulled based on the extremely poor disregard they have for their retail customers.

Instead of spending another hour dealing with them, I am now spending half that time filing complaints on every consumer review. Perhaps with enough complaints they will get the idea that one bad review is equal to 10 lost customers. My advice to you - pick any bank with a blindfold on and throw a dart. I guarantee it will be better than SunTrust now Truist.

Typical

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, April 09, 2020

Oh yes even though you wrote a lot of "fluff", in reality you had basically nothing to say so you came up with the typical "Oh you must work for them". So sorry to burst your bubble but I do not now or have I ever worked for this or any bank. You were asked simple questions, your inference as to their meaning is 100% on you.  But it seems that my comments weren't all lost. Unless you are going to say it is some very odd coincidence you at least seemed to take the suggestion to contact the Credit Reporting Agencies.

However, why are you CALLING them? You can go online and file a dispute and send them your letter showing the HELOC was paid off, all in about 10-15 minutes. The added bonus is that you now have PROOF of when you submited the dispute.

but the fact that no one at SunTrust has been willing to correct this gross error that has had a profound impact on my health.

- Actually based on your narrative, you only gave them 3 weeks to correct the error. Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act they have 30 days, you gave them about 21 days. I'm not saying that in that extra 9 days things would have been corrected. But even if they didn't just calling them doesn't start any counter on this timeline...you need proof that you have disputed it and that can really only be in writing.

There's a Simple Solution Here Cliff

AUTHOR: Jim - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 08, 2020

You spoke to someone at the bank, right?  They agreed the loan should not have been reported, right?  So get them to put that in writing on their letterhead, and send to the Credit Reporting Agencies in writing.  The bank cannot ask the agencies to remove the items - understand?  That's now up to you.  So get that letter, and send it off.  If indeed it is as you say it is, then you should not have a problem.

That is the very simple solution to your problem.  You don't need to come here and write a report for which there is a very simple solution to.  So go do it.

Bob, you are at it again

AUTHOR: Clifford - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 08, 2020

Bob,

What is it with you? If you do not work for SunTrust, then why are you getting into other people's business? Is this what you do to let time go by? Write comments regarding how you would handle gross negligence by a Financial Institution?

Yes Bob, your recommendations are useless. The bank has to send in updates to the Credit Bureaus. Perhaps you didn't read my last rebuttal to you - the Credit Bureaus are not working now! They are not answering calls during the Pandemic. Maybe you think it is reasonable for a bank to make a false claim and destroy a person's credit worthiness. I didn't cause the problem, SunTrust did and it is one heck of a problem. I have a letter showing the loan paid off and the account closed. So What? Even if I send the report to the Credit Bureaus you think they are just going to take if off? What planet are you from?

The Credit Bureaus will only send the inquiry with the supporting documentation back to the Company that originally submitted the credit report and then you have to wait 60 days before they have to respond. And if the bank is working on integrating a big merger, you think it cares whether it sends false reports to the credit bureaus? Nope. This could go on for months. So your think this is acceptable behavior and response from a bank that you have been doing business with for over 35 years? Bob, maybe your credit is so bad that it wouldn't bother you if a creditor sent in a false report that had a significant negative impact on your credit score. Some people care, Bob. In fact most people care and would react the same way if they were in my situation.

Bob, there is only three possibilities with you:

1) You are a sophisticated AI agent that knows how to send out misinformation and distract from the issue at hand

2) You are a real person who works for a PR firm whose account is SunTrust and your job is responding to social media to put a spin on any complaint or negative review in order to diffuse it or

3) you are a highly dysfunctional human being, who wastes time trolling the web to seek pleasure in tormenting people who have grieveances with creditors. Bob, maybe you have an excuse? Did you have something so horrible happen to you that your target people whose problems seem insignificant to you and try to belittle their complaints?

Frankly, I don't really care about you Bob whoever you are. I have posted to the consumer review sites in order to get the attention of SunTrust, not you.  There are other people out there who have experienced a similar situation as mine where an incorrect report was submitted to the credit bureaus and they can't get approved to lease a car, get a mortgage, or consolidate credit card debt to a lower rate.

I am not in that dire situation, but I know how to defend myself and its about time that these financial institutions should begin to be responsible for screwing up people's credit. They can do it to you, but you can't do it to them. So that's why there are all these popular consumer review sites out there because a lot of people have to fight hard to get a gross error corrected by these large institutions. Do you remember the movie, "Trading Places"?

That's what happens when you get caught in multinational company's web and there is no one there to correct it. So Bob, please stop reading my reviews, rebuttals and move on. There are plenty more people you can harass on these sites. This is the last rebuttal I am going to write to you. You are just wasting my time. You can write a 100 rebuttals and that is fine with me. This is the last one you will get from me. Have a nice life Bob.

Robert, you must be a Shill for SunTrust (Truist)

AUTHOR: Clifford - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 08, 2020

Robert,

Let  me answer your "assumptions" that are completely unfounded.

1) I have had a perfect credit score for the past 20 years - always between 825 and 850 so your assumption that I am a deadbeat or that you are insinuating that I have an outstanding balance on the closed account is completely wrong. When you have a high score, it doesn't take much to knock it way down, such as what appears as an additional $400,000 balance on my mortgage totals.

2) I refinanced the HELOC in 2015 and there is no way that Bank of America would have refinanced the loan with any UCCs or any liens on my property. In fact, I have payoff documents from SunTrust establishing the fact that this loan was paid off in full, in good standing and closed. I also used a very competent legal firm to handle the transaction.

3) The SunTrust submission to the credit bureaus show a loan "in good standing" with a balance of $400,000 showing a "100% paid on time" loan with the last time reported on June 2013. You think an outstanding loan of this size would go unnoticed for over 5 years?

4) Robert, yes, it is unlikely that "out of the blue, one day, decided to put this listing back on the credit report" but they did and that it why I have filed complaints with every agency from BBB, the Florida Attorney General, the Federal Reserve, TrustPilot, US Consumer Affairs Division and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. My issue is not that there may have been a computer glitch (possibly due to the SunTrust / BBT merger requiring an over abundance of audit review for a combination of two public companies that are in the highly regulated financial industry), but the fact that no one at SunTrust has been willing to correct this gross error that has had a profound impact on my health.

5) Robert, I was always current on my loan, I have no derogatories on my report, I have 100% on time payment with my credit cards, auto leases, and mortgages and I don't mean for the last 12 months, I am talking about the last 20 years.  My oldest credit card is 38 years old. I have nothing in collections and I have full documentation that the loan was paid in full before it was closed.

6) Credit Bureaus - Robert, why don't you try to reach TransUnion, Equifax and Experian on the phone? For example, yesterday I was on the phone with Transunion for 3 hours, 42 minutes and 28 seconds and when I finally reached an Agent, they disconnected me within in 5 seconds. How can I be so precise of time spent waiting on the phone with their strategically selected horrible music hoping people will just give up? I have a clock on my phone that showed the exact amount of time that I was on hold before the Agent cut me off.

7) Robert, as far as your last point "yet again if is truly an error." It is pretty clear you want to leave the impression of anyone reading your post that you doubt I am telling the truth.

Robert, since you have made some assumptions regarding me, I am going to make an assumption about you which can be just as unfounded as your assumptions regarding my complaint. I believe you work for SunTrust or a public relations company employed by SunTrust (now Truist, hmm an unusual name considering my experience) and that your job is to comb the Internet to find any negative comment on SunTrust and create "an alternative reality to the truth" or furthering negative public sentiment away from your client by disparaging my claim. If you not employed by SunTrust or a public relations company on retainer by SunTrust, then prove it.

Robert, you are not doing any service to the people on this good site by spreading false narratives. Who knows, you could be an AI Agent deployed to protect SunTrust.

What are you leaving out?

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 08, 2020

It is unlikely that they just out of the blue one day decided to put this listing back on your credit report.  For your credit score to drop 100 points because of this, it seems you are leaving something out in your narrative. Because for a drop like this, it would generally mean you have a very thin credit file, or this is a negative(delinquent) item.

You don't seem to be disagreeing that you had an account, just that they reopened an account you had. So how/why was the account "closed" back in 2015? Were you current on the loan or was it in collections?  Did you pay off the loan?  Do you happen to have any proof it was paid off?

If this is truly a mistake, you can file a dispute through the Credit Reporting Agencies. If they don't remove it after that you can take additional legal action for violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, but that is again if it is truly an error.
