I found Surf Moving, LLC on Craigslist. I contacted them to help me move a few items from my storage unit nearby to my apartment. I gave Artur ( owner or whatever he is in the company business) I specified how many itmes I need to move (2 couches, 1 headboard and 6 dinning chairs). I told him some items could fit in the elevator of my building and 2 items need to be carried to the 5th floor. He told me it was $50 for each floor, I gladly declined, they he offered to only charge me a flat fee of $100 to take the items up to the 5th floor + moving fee of $225, that the entire job would be $335.  I agreed. They day of the move, they were an hour late, they said they ended up in a different town, it was the GPS's fault. They came to the storage unit with me to pick up my items and his partner says oh, these couches are heavy we charge extra for that and that I should have told them. I rebutted by stating that Artur did not make me aware the there was a weight issue with furniture pickup, that I'm not in the moving business and I would not have know anything about this. after a lot of back and forth, they agreed to do the job. They picked up my items passed my apartment building, I had to redirect them back. Before they uploaded the truck, they told me I had to pay first. Now the fee was $417.37. I asked what changed? They said there's a 7% tax and $20 gratuity. I have never heard of a moving company adding gratuity to a bill. The items were already in the truck in front of my building - I was stuck. They unloaded the truck, began taking one of the pieces of furniture up the stairs, thye got to the 3rd floor, then, the 2nd guy Artur's partner said, "i'm not taking this up the second floor," I'm not working for free. Again, reinterated that Artur offered a flat fee of $100 to bring 2 items up the stairs to the 5th floor. Artur's partner then said he's just going to leave my furniture in the staircase of the 3rd floor. there was a lot of back and forth and me again reminding Artur this was the offer he made me and now he's recanting. There was no working things out. The whole thing seemed like a set up, they had me. My furniture is stuck in the staircase on the 3rd floor and I live on the fifth floor. I'm a woman of small stature, I don't have the strength to haul my items up 12 steps to my door. Now, the fee is $609.37. They had it all planned out. When I asked who is the owner, Artur's cohort said he was just a manager, then he said Artur was the owner. This was a set up to swindle and hussle people who need help moving. After all was said and done I Zelled them $609.37. Had I known this I would have never hired them. Stay clear of these scammers. Find legitimate movers to get your job done and not get swindled by these guys.
