THE TOLL ROADS POORLY WORDED SIGN AND EXORBITANT PENALTIES Irvine CA

I suspect there's a scam of some kind because the toll signs on Rte 241 (Los Angeles to San Diego) instead of clearly saying, "Pay your tolls at thetollroads.com within 48 hours" it says "One-Time-Tolls thetollroads.com within 48 hours." I took a total of 11 trips (to and from San Diego) since October.

As someone from the east coast (have been here since 2016), I'm used to toll bridges (manned or unmanned), clear signage and E-Z Pass info everywhere. Encountering these signs, I looked for the turnoff to pay my tolls and since everyone was just driving along, figured the toll project was still being set up.

Months later when I received letters from The Toll Roads, I didn't connect the dots. Now, for a total of $38.33 in fines, I owe these guys about $1,200!! They've offered to reduce it, but I'm just shocked at what they can get away with: Poorly worded signage, which I suspect is deliberate so they can collect exorbitant penalties, as sanctioned by the State of California.
