Tom Philbrook The Yankee Tradesman Contracted to install new steam radiators Eliot, Kittery, York Maine

Was referred by a friend to help install five newly purchased steam radiators. Talked on phone initially to explain project and confirm this was in his wheelhouse. Met at house and examined the layout quoted that with some assistance moving radiators the work could be completed within 6-8 hours. Tom Philbrook again quoted pricing for installation which included several new connectors.  Offered to meet him at the supply store but he was called to other emergencies for two scheduled times. Finally he asked for a partial payment upfront to purchase materials for installation later in the week. Contractor stopped responding to phone calls and text messages, and when approached in acalm manner at the local hardware store several weeks later, claimed not to know anything about the encounter, or the initial contact. Subsequently learned from the police department the man has a record. We let our guard down based on a personal reference from a trusted friend...
