I have a classic car that I brought to West auto group in San Diego for a transmission fluid leak and shifting problem. They said I needed transmission fluid ,new carb, timing adjustment, belt tightened. The carburetor was not that old and could've been rebuilt but they said it would be cheaper to replace it with a new one.

I was not told that it would be $1000 with installation ($774+$180). I didn't get my car back until 3 weeks later. They call me up to let me know that it was ready and it $1485. Ouch! Okay, maybe it was so expensive because the transmission needed to be repaired. No they only tightened the tranny lines and replaced fluid.

These guys charged 2hrs of labor $180 + $774 for a Edelbrock carburetor that retails for $360. I asked why the carb was so expensive and they said it was to cover 2yr/24mth warranty and shop costs. The carburetor already comes with a 1 yr warranty. I know that shops have to charge to stay in business but charging $774 for a $360 carb is a RIPOFF! On top of that charging 2hrs for removing and installing a simple 4 bolt carb adds more insult to the injury.

I communicated my situation with the owner Brian Bowersock. He wasnt honest on how they could justify charging that much. He wouldn't even tell me how much they paid for the part. He got upset because I left a yelp review with photos of documentation. After that he stopped communicating with me and never resolved my issue.

I had to file complaints with BBB better business bureau, CA Automotive Repair Bureau and AAA. The CA auto Bureau investigated my case and found out West auto paid three hundred sixty and they agreed that was an exorbitant amount.

i also contacted AAA where I was referred from. I won't be coming back to West Auto Group ever again and if anyone ever thinks about going there they should see what happen to me because it's not right to Rip people off!

Expensive Bolts, Right?

You're right! That is a simple remove and replace job. No excuse! However...you can complain all you want to the BBB and it is a waste of your time! The BBB is NOT your friend. They could care less about you. In fact, what they will do is use your complaint as a sales lead to get this place to buy into the BBB SCAM if they haven't already done so.

The BBB is NOT the business police. The BBB is NOT part of ANY government body or law enforcement body. The BBB has ZERO POWER to force any business to do anything! They call themselves a "bureau" because they think you are too stupid to figure out their scam. The ONLY purpose of the BBB is to SELL their PHONEY ratings and accreditations to any business, good or bad which wants to buy them.

If this business already bought into their game, you would be participating in a sham "mediation" session. It's a SHAM because the FAKE MEDIATOR is a BBB employee and the business is a BBB customer. See what a level playing field you'd be on? The BBB has gone to great lengths to con the public into thinking they are something they are most definitely not.

While you certainly have valid complaints here, the BBB is NOT going to help you and the BBB has ABSOLUTELY ZERO LAW ENFORCEMENT POWERS to do anything and that is a FACT!
