I scheduled a move with Good Movers to take place on March, 29th. The movers were to arrive between 8-9 am.  When they had not arrived by 9:20, I called to find out where they were and was informed my truck had been cancelled on the 25th.

I was then put on the line with the owner of the company.  He informed me if I wanted my goods moved I would need to pay an additional $1000.  I told him I did not understand why I needed to pay extra for their mistake of cancelling my truck.

He stated my options were to pay the extra money or find another mover.  Scheduled the next day for work at my new job and my apartment lease up, I was forced to pay the additional charges.

I had scheduled a same day move and it was 2 weeks later before they dropped off my goods.  I was taken advantage of by this company and feel it is a shame these companies are allowed to do business in this manner.

I Don't Know if You Figured This Out...

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 14, 2011

123 movers is a broker, and your cancellation was done...on purpose.... because no one wanted to do the move at the price that was quoted.  When they provide you a binding quote, they put your move on a board hoping a small cross-country mover would take the load while working their way back to their home base.  You NEVER need to use a moving broker....

In this case, your binding, written... quote is subject to increase at the whim of the mover - even if they initially agreed to perform the move at the price suggested.  Believe me, even if they showed up at your apartment first, they would have walked in, and told you about the additional $1000 on top of what was quoted.  You're stuck either way.  Despite this, the behavior is (1) legal, and (2) standard procedure for movers through this and any website.  You can't even call the police because they look at the issue as a civil matter, not a criminal one.  Their contract that you signed even allows them to do these things.

I suppose you were fortunate for the following reasons:

1.  You didn't indicate how much was damaged.  Scam movers folks are notorious for damaging and destroying other people's belongings.

2.  You indicated it took 2 weeks to deliver.  You're really fortunate.  Most times, the mover will literally take 4 weeks and it will be delivered by a mover you don't even know.

Moving is not an inexpensive venture and choosing the cheap mover often costs you far more than a reputable mover would in terms of time, money, the safety of your goods, etc...  Best of luck...
