24/7 PC Care PC Care 24/7 Calling to tell me my computer had been hacked, Internet

Sounds like the call I got too.  I think the only way to shut these people down is to warn everybody we know that it's a scam. When it becomes non-profitable they'll switch to another type of scheme.

I just got an unsolisted phone call saying they were 24 7 pc care from Microsoft, and they were calling to have me check my PC for Junk Files that would hurt my PC.. 



"go turn on your PC, I will wait"  Ronnie (Indian Accent phone 1-613-777-0611 which later answerd as 24 7 PC Care help desk !!) directed me to Events Log files where there were Warnings & Errors. 



I had disconnected my DSL line, as I feared they would try to hack me.. after several minutes of finding log files with errors & warnings,  I told them these were not junk files but simply Log Files..



he put on his supervisor who immediately argued with me when I said this was a very unusal phone call.  I asked for a call back number  "Kevin" gave me 987-654-3210  which did not work!!  they hung up on me !!!!  



This is a very BAD and deceptive approach to gain access to your PC..

How do we find these people & shut them down ???

You were right to blow her off. I received the same call a few days ago. The guy wanted me to run the "eventvwr" program. Although this is a common Windows command, I wasn't familiar with it so I declined. I played along with him to see where it was going. When he got too pushy I just hung up.

I googled this "eventvwr" and I guess it's becoming a more common scam. Once you run the program it brings up all the errors your computer experienced while on the internet. This is common, but can look pretty scary to a novice.  The scammer prey on that fear and convince you to buy their program to clean it up.

TOTALLY UNNECESSARY!  Don't fall for it.
