47th Digital misrepresents and outragously overprices a Palm handheld device New York New York

While on a visit to New York, I went with a friend into 47th Digital as he wanted to purchase a video camera. The salesman, Isaa Eilan, asked me if I was interested in anything.

I had been thinking of buying a Pocket PC, so he pulled a box off the shelf and told me I could have this one at half price. It was a Palm, but a model I had not heard of, so I believed him when he said it was a Pocket PC. The box showed that it had wi-fi, and could work with Microsoft Office. He said the price was $475.00, about half of the usual price.

I knew it wasn't half, but a good price for a Pocket PC nevertheless. So I bought it.

Once I got the product home and started to set it up, I saw that it wasn't a Pocket PC at all! It has a Palm operating system, not Windows Mobile, and can't do half of what a Pocket PC can do. What really hurts (and embarrasses) me is the price I paid -- $475.00. The exact same device, a Palm TX, can be bought at Staples in New York City for $299.00, with a wireless keyboard thrown in.

When I phoned to complain, the response was that the price was fair. Give me a break! Isaa said that if I came back to the store he'd make me happy, whatever that means. Of course he knew very well that I live on the other side of the continent to New York, and there's no way I can get back soon.

I don't know if I can get satisfaction, but I want to put out a warning: if you shop at 47th Digital, be careful!
