5225 Maple Ave Landlord failed to adequately attempt to find individual to take my apartment after buying house. Dallas Texas

Texas law requires that a landlord take necessary steps to mitigate damages caused by a renter breaking their lease early. I notified my apartment complex in June/July that I began searching for houses and in August gave official notice. The complex had me pay over $900 reletting fee for advertising the apartment and indicated to me that advertising and marketing would be needed to find someone to take over the lease. However, what they failed to realize is that texas law requires THEM to utilize that $900 and take adequate steps to find someone to take over lease and midigate damages. Instead, they have sat back, never shown the apartment to anyone, and are planning on simply collecting rent through the end of the original lease while I turn in the keys. This is a complete rip-off. They should not take a $1,000 reletting fee on top of rent for every month under the contract and make no attempt to release the apartment. They have had adequate amount of time to find someone to release it and that is what the reletting fee pays for. They seem to think they have no responsibility in leasing it, but they do. They have known about this for many many months and there is no excuse for not having found anyone yet.
