I purchased a home August 2008. I'm using 5/3rd Bank as a lender. I received a letter in February stating my escrow account had a shortage of almost $2,000. I called and a customer service rep. stated the shortage started in October when my 1st payment was due. I was told by Maria Barriga,( my mort. rep. )that it was due to 2007 taxes and home owners insurance. I asked how that happened if everything was done at closing. I have been calling 5/3 rd Bank and no one can tell me much more of anything. I have been requesting statements since the account was opened and have not received any. I also wanted to know how the account acquired a shortgage within 2 months and why wasn't I notified sooner. I've talked to the title company, and the township that submits real estate taxes and I was told "you have to pay whatever 5/3rd asks". If I didn't pay the full amount my payments would be about $300 higher.
I'm now told to contact the real estate lawyer.

If you didn't purchase the house until August 2008, how could you owe 2007 taxes and insurance? Did you ask them this?
