i ordered a north face jacket for my husband for christmas.  i thought it was a real north face jacket because the online address was northfaceoutlet.com.  that was not the case.

i asked on more than one occasion (before the order was fully processed) of the coat's authenticity.  i never got a reply yet they continued to process and ship  my order even though i specifically said not to if it's not a real north face.  i paid $150 for it so really wasn't saving too much.

i contacted the customer service once it came in and quickly noticed it was a fake.  the fleece lining was a plastic like pleather and the goretex word said goldtex.  they not once apologized or offered to return my money.  instead they wanted pictures of the jacket, which i sent.  they replied to me by saying they cannot accept it because nothing is wrong with it.  yeah they were right, other than it being a piece of crap plastic garbage bag that was $150.  i am still trying to get my money back but at this point just feel really taken advantage of.  i totally thought everything about the site was legit.

Fake Chinese websites

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 04, 2012

"   i totally thought everything about the site was legit.  "

Chinese websites that sell counterfeit merchandise are all over the web.   There are a few ways to spot them BEFORE you buy.

1. Read the text.  The grammar and spelling are usuallly a dead giveaway.  Even with spellcheckers, they can't disguise poorly constructed (and sometimes outrageously funny) sentence structure.

2. Check the contact information on the site.   Most often there will be no physical address and no phone number.  The only contact will be by email and that will be a throwaway type of email address like a Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo address.  Legit companies conduct business using their own domain names.

3. Do an Internet WHOIS search on the website (Google it).  It will tell you who owns the site and how long it has been in existence.   I had a problem with yours because you referred to northfaceoutlet.com in the text of your report, but the report was on a website called www.northfaceonlineoutletstore.com  This is interesting the because northfaceoutlet.com is shown to be a parked domain owned by the real North Face corp.   It's possible that it was once a counterfeit site and was taken over by the legitimate company.

On the other hand, the website mentioned in the title of your report is interesting.   The WHOIS search shows it to be a Chinese knockoff site, and more interestingly, it was first registered yesterday!  Though this is not likely the actual site you bought your jacket from, you did find a brand new counterfeit site.   I would highly recommend reporting that site to North Face, so they can have it shut down.

If you used a credit card for the transaction, you should dispute the charge with your credit card company.   They will often reverse the charge if you can show you were sold counterfeit merchandise.   If you paid via a funds transfer, you're out of luck.
