A pony's paradise equine rescue seems to be the newest "pop up" rescue looking to cash in on the kill buyers horses..from what I've gathered this organization is run by a Melissa G. Ulmer and various other non-important members. So I did a little digging after seeing a post about a horse they are looking to save with the hefty price tag of $2000 (meanwhile the horse is listed for less then $400). Apparently this $2000 is for QT, transport and bail..I've been around horses and rescuing them for over 30 years...nobody needs that much money to get a horse from the kill buyer and safely home after QT. So, disappointed, I continued my search and found multiple parties who were very willing to say a few words about this Melissa.

Long story short, this organization is nothing more then an attempt to have personal horses paid for through donations, lying, deceiving and fundraising to purchase goods for the boarding business that is running out of the same location by this Melissa. I also gathered from their facebook page that a horse didn't have his feet done for almost a year while in their care. I understand that they are a 501 but here in the state of PA- that means nothing (ac4h, miracles happen for horses) it doesn't make them anymore worthy of your donations then any other private non 501 rescue. I also noticed that they have been in operation almost a year but haven't really made any leaps or bounds in furthering their organization. I'd suggest donating to a worthy cause such as the SPCA or local humane society. It won't be long before this rescue folds along side all the other pop-up rescues coming out of the woodworks to cash in! Unless you want to pay for this Melissa's boarding business and personal horses, DO NOT DONATE and DO NOT SUPPORT.

A pony's paradise is NOT legit

AUTHOR: anonymous - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, August 16, 2015

I boarded my horses with this woman when she opened her facility in 2009. I stayed for a while until the drama took over. My mare was in a muddy paddock that was considered a "dry lot". My daughters mare was in there too. Neither of our horses needed a dry lot but that was the only place they could go since there is no room on the property. 10 acres is not enough room to have more then 10 horses on..shes far exceeded that number and it shows in the condition of the land. The main reason my daughter and I left is because the drama was excessive. People were sleeping with each other and accusing married women of affairs. It's sad to see that this POS is still in business and that people are dumb enough to board with her let alone support her "rescue". Anything this woman does she does with the intent of benefitting herself, nobody else. I can only imagine she's using this rescue to pay for her own horses. she was on the board of another rescue before she opened mjr stables and constantly talked about how much money that rescue made the president. i see in an above comment someone mentioned having a bad name in the area..nobody in the area has a worse name then MJR stables and A pony's paradise equine rescue. The lies she spreads, her lack of professionalism, her sub-par care of the horses and the drama filled barn all make her one of the worst, if not THE worst boarding facility in Dutchess, Westchester and Putnam county.

A Pony's Paradise is legit

I don't know where this person is getting thier information otehr then making it up. If you chack out A Pony's Paradise Equine Resue's website, you'll know the horse thier bailed neede money for tranport to QT, veterinary care, gelding, farrier work and transport to the rescue. If you have basic math knowledge, those bills start adding up to about $2000 and thier idea of raising a little more for him i a good idea incase there is an emergency.

Aso where you're getting the notion that they help kill buyers is rediculous. They bailed that horse from Cranberry sales where several rescues save horses from.

Also if you research the 2 people that had any harsh words about the rescue, you'll find that those people are scammers that are only looking for free board for their own horses. They used Melissa and are now using their own resuce and the people they can scam to take care of their horses. I mean just check out their rescue page, the ammount of illegal activity that's going on is rediclous.

Also so what if they're not backed by the ASPCA? They are a small rescue, they don't need to grow until they are ready. These ladies are doing an awesome job and this woman in PA should worry aobut what's going on in PA and not in NY. If you want to write an hones opinion of the rescue, then you need to visit them and see for yourself what's going on.
