To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Sergey L****. On October 4, 2013 I called “Smooth Movers” company to book my move from Greenwood, IN to North Miami, FL. Over the phone I spoke to a person named Phillip Merritt. I clearly explain him that I leave in two bedroom apartment and I’m looking to spend no more than $ 2,500 for my move. Over the phone I gave him an exact description of all the things that I have in my apartment and he told me that it will be no more than $ 2,500 possibly even less including that movers will pack my whole apartment themselves.

He also told me that based on the stuff that I have it will not exceed the limit of 4,200 lb. Since their price and conditions suited my needs I had made a decision to book my move with “Smooth Movers” for October 18, 2013 and left them a deposit of $500. I also told them that it is very important for me that they will come on October 18 because it is my last day to vacate the apartment plus I already had planned my trip down to North Miami, FL with my wife and my 18 month old son.

A few days before my move I called Phillip to see if everything is still the same as we agreed earlier. He said that everything is OK. Next time I called him on October 17 (a day before my move) to find out at what time movers are planning to come. To my big surprise Phillip told me that movers will not come on a day we agreed (October 18) they will only come the next day (October 19). I got really upset. I called directly to the driver who supposed to come and pick my staff up and he told me the same thing. After a few not really nice conversations finally Phillip told me that movers will be at my apartment on October 18.

On October 18 two movers showed up at my place. They were totally unprepared for my move (didn’t have enough boxes and packing materials). These movers were so unprofessional. It took them 9 hours to pack my two bedroom apartment (normally it should not take more than 4 hours) and even more than that I was helping them to do so (I should not even touch a thing because I was paying them to do the packing) otherwise it would take them much longer. They didn’t bother to wrap my furniture at all. They put my expensive suites in a box for lamps. They packed my baby’s bottles into a kitchen trash can.

They put my wife’s expansive face cream, perfumes and $30 electric tooth brush into a bathroom trashcan on a top of all the trash that was already in there. In the middle of the packing process they ran out of the boxes. Luckily I had some extra boxes in my house so they could finish packing. What a smooth move! But I was still trying to stay positive and after the movers were done packing I gave them a very good tip. They also told me that it will take them about 5 days to bring my stuff down to Florida.

A day before movers should bring my stuff down to North Miami Phillip called me and said that there will be some changes in a price because apparently my stuff weight was for 1,400lb over the norm and as a result I will have to pay $615 extra for that. Does this sound like a smooth move? I got really upset because before I booked my move with “Smooth Movers” I warned Phillip that I’m very price sensitive and if they can not give me the price I’m willing to pay than I will book my move with someone else. They never weight the truck in front of me and the way this company does its business I have all the right not to believe into this overweight.

I tried to negotiate the price with Phillip but he told me that he can not do anything for me. I asked him to transfer me to his manager. He transferred me to someone named Todd (as I found out later he was not even a manager of this company).  After talking to Todd I was able to negotiate the extra price down to $300. He told me that “business is business” and he can not do anything better that that. He also gave me the ultimatum if I will not pay the full amount right now they will put my staff into storage. I had no choice but to pay them.

When the movers brought my staff into my new place I was more that SHOK! None of the furniture was wrapped. Four boxes were smashed. My white bed that I purchased in Bloomingdales (sales price $3,000) was not wrapped and had black oily stains in a couple of places. My living room couch that I also bought in Bloomingdales (sales price $2,000) had one leg broken. My bedroom dresser ($150) was broken; two footrests had black oily stains. My baby’s dresser ($300) was all covered with sticky staff that we still can not take off and had lots of small holes in it, the baby crib mattress had a whole in it too,

the baby mattress cover had black oily stains that we can not take off even after 2 washes. My expansive suites and shirts that currently were dry cleaned were not packed properly and start looking like trash. One of my T-shirts (Hugo Boss $75) had a hole in it. Some of my wife’s cloth was packed in a garbage bags. One of the Lenox wine glasses was broken. One of the lamp covers (lamp price $120) and baby’s night lamp were broken too. This does not look to me like a “Smooth Move” at all!

After the movers were done I called to the company to report all the damages. I spoke with Phillip who told me do not get upset and that the company will take care of everything. He also told me to contact Jeremy who will come and fix all the damages. I did so. Jeremy showed up only 10 days later. He did not do a thing other than gave my wife an advise to buy a Mr. Cleaner magic raiser in Wall mart and try to take the stains  off with it. On November 7 I called to the company and Phillip told me that they will reimburse me the money for my damages. But as a result nothing was done till today. That how they do their business!

I had to move quite a few times in my life but I never had any issues with any of my moving companies except “Smooth Mover”. This company does not deserve their name. They should not be in business. The only think they can do well is to break somebody’s personal property and than make them overpay for it.

I’m asking your help in resolving this issue so there will not be any more unhappy customers with this company.

Please feel free to contact me by email: (((email redacted)))

Thank you.
