I had two cars insured with AAA for a few years. Later I added home insurance and road side assistance also. Initially I used to get paper invoices for my premium dues and made payments using my check book or online option. Later at some point I setup automatic payments from my credit card. I was hoping this will make things easy for me and I won't have to worry about monthly payments.

Everything was fine, however, I kept recieving reminders of non-payment and cancellation notices every month. Every month I received notices like that and called them to find out that it must have been a mistake and the payment was already posted. This continued for a few months and I ended up wasting 20-30 minutes of my time every month. Customer service was never able to figure out why I received these notices. Consequently, I started ignoring these reminders.

A few months ago my credit card on file was replaced with a new one with the same number but a revised expiration date. Since, I have a few credit cards, I did not realize that the AAA auto payment was on this card. When they tried to charge my account, it did not go thru and they send me cancellation notice just like they had been doing every month. I, however, ignored it considering it a fake notice.

When I called after 2 months, just to make sure that every thing was okay, I was informed that I did not have coverage any more and my insurance had lapsed for almost 2 months. They had to reinsure me and my preminum just went up by about $500 per year. I spoke with the rep and asked to speak with a supervisor. I was promised a call back with no luck. After calling a few time, I did speak with a supervisor who told me that another person will call me back which never happened. Completely pissed off, I insured my vehicles with another provider and cancelled my auto insurance part with AAA. Now my home insurance went up by a few hundered dollars.

It seems like they followed the proper procedure for cancellation but the previous fake cancellation notices were the reason for this lapse. I am in good financial status and never have any problems with any of my financial obligations. I am conviced that AAA should be held accountable for this lapse.
