I only just found this site or I would have posted this a year ago

I took my 1994 Dodge 2500 Cummins Diesel truck to the Aamco in Summerville, South Carolina on July 29, 2002 with a leak in the cooler lines. When I dropped it off I spoke with the manager, Bill McCurdy and informed him of the leak and where I suspected it was coming from. He said he would have his technician look at it and would give me a call with the findings.

When he called me back the next day, he said that the transmission needed to be re-built and we made the necessary arrangements. I returned to pick it up on August 3, 2002. While I was signing all of the warranty paper work and paying for the service Mr. McCurdy said that they wanted to put it up on the lift for one last inspection. Upon inspecting, they found that it was still leaking from the cooler lines. I left the truck with them so that they could order and install the proper parts.

During several phone conversations with Mr. McCurdy over the next few days I informed him that we would need the truck back by Thursday, August 8, 2002 to prepare for a camping trip we were taking in Florida. Mr. McCurdy assured me that it would be ready by that time. It was not. He finally called me on Friday morning, August 9, 2002 to tell me that we could come and pick it up. We drove to an hour out of our way to pick it up on our way down to Florida. When we got there Mr. McCurdy was not there and someone named Lee Jamison (who I later found out is the owner of this center) informed us that it was not ready to pick up and that they were still looking for another part. We had to cancel our camping trip at the last minute and forfeit our deposit along with the first nights fee for our reservations.

On Thursday of the following week, August 15, 2002 we returned to pick up the truck, assured that it was properly repaired. Two days later I checked the fluid level and it was 2 quarts low. I took it back to AAMCO once again. This time they said that they needed to replace the transmission case.

On Tuesday, September 3, 2002, I went and picked up my truck, once again. I checked beneath it for leaks and the following day and it is still leaking. Upon closer inspection, I found that, not only is it still leaking, but it is still leaking from the exact same cooler line location that it was when I originally took it to be repaired on July 29, 2002.

I called back on Thursday, September 12, 2002 and this time I was informed that Mr. McCurdy no longer worked there and I spoke with Lee again. He said that he would check with Jerome, the technician in charge, and call me back.

When I spoke with Lee on Thursday, September 12, 2002 I inquired about a rental or loaner vehicle while they kept my truck this time. I explained to him that I use my truck daily in my line of work and can not go without it any longer. He quickly dismissed me and declined my request saying that it was not a service that AAMCO offered.

At this point I was extremely agitated and emailed the corporate office, telling them the entire situation above (word for word) and added the following:

------------------------

I am not normally one to complain about things but I feel that this entire situation had gotten severely out of hand. I have been greatly inconvenienced over the past month by your company's inability to properly repair my truck. I do not know what coarse of action I would like to take at this time. Ideally, I would like my truck fixed correctly, to be refunded the rental fee for another truck, and my warranty extended to cover an additional month of service for the month my truck has been sitting at your shop. I do not feel that this is an exaggerated request considering the past month.

If you do not wish to comply with this request, I would like a full refund and I will take my truck elsewhere to be repaired.

I originally chose AAMCO to service my truck because I have heard nothing but flattering reviews of your service and quality of work. I sincerely hope that you can live up to those remarks.

------------------------

With in a couple of days I received a call from a lady in the corporate office named Pam Newman. She said that she would contact the store and we could work on a resolution to my complaint and to let her know if I had any more problems with them. I then sent her this email:

The next time I spoke with Lee and I told him that my truck was still leaking, he ASKED ME what I though they needed to do to fix it. He said that they had exhausted every effort and did not know what else to do. I told him that it was still leaking from the cooler lined and that they needed to replace the cooler lines - Like I had originally suggested back in July.

Last night I received a call from a man who identified himself as a representative for Aamco Transmissions. He said that he had been speaking with Lee, the owner of the Summerville Store regarding the problems with my truck and that they had determined that in order to stop the leak they would need to replace the cooler lines. He said that those were $300.00 and that because of the inconveniences I have had with Aamco they would install them free of charge on labor and that all I had to pay for were parts.

When I originally took my truck to them in July I told them that it was leaking FROM THE COOLER LINES and I wanted it stopped. I suggested that they replace the cooler lines and they told me that the only way they could be sure that it was stopped was to totally re-build it.

Now that it is still leaking, they are trying to tell me that they rebuilt it for "other problems" and that the cooler lines are not covered with my warranty - that I will have to pay an additional $300.00 for that.

I did not ask them to fix the "other problems" and I'm not sure that there were any. They were supposed to fix the leak in the Cooler Lines and give me a warranty to cover any problems. They did not fix it - It's still under warranty. I want it fixed correctly, and I want it covered under my warranty.

It's as simple as that.

When I told the gentleman who called me last night that he got very rude with me and informed me that "technically the cooler lines are not part of the transmission".

Now I have been extremely patient with this entire situation. I have given your company numerous attempts (probably too many) to correctly repair my truck. So far they have not managed to do so.

I will not pay them another cent to fix my truck.

I don't care what "Other Problems" it had - I took it to them to fix a leak in the cooler lined and I paid them $1700.00 to fix a leak in the cooler lines. I have a warranty from that work and it is still leaking.

---------------------------------------

Pam, once again, called me and said that she had called the Summerville location and that they would honor their warranty and that they would fix my truck. She again told me that if I had any more problems to please let her know. Then I sent her this email:

I spoke with Lee Jamison, the owner of the Summerville, SC shop and he informed me that he would not replace the cooler lines at his cost. He again offered to do the labor for free but told me I would have to purchase the lines.

When I originally took my truck to the Summerville AAMCO in July, Bill McCurdy, the manager at the time, informed me that the only way he could stop the leak and guarantee the work was to re-build the transmission. He assured me that it would correct the problem and that if I did have any more problems over the next year I could bring it back and it would be covered under my warranty. I paid them almost $1,800.00 in July to re-build it and got a one-year warranty (which has recently been extended to 18-months) on the work. It is still leaking from that original visit. Apparently Mr. Jamison is not willing to stand behind the word or the work of his employees.

Please let me know how I should proceed from here. I do not want to take my truck back to the AAMCO in Summerville but I believe there is a location in North Charleston that is relatively close to me.

Also, I left it parked for a day and a half over the weekend and when I started to drive it I noticed that the transmission has started slipping. I let it warm up and I checked the fluid levels - they were all ok. I do not know what is causing it to slip but I would like that checked out as well.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

-----------------------------------

Well, needless to say, this is a year later. After months of going back and forth I finally told Pam that I was NOT taking my truck back to that location and she sent me to their location in Charleston, SC. The mechanic there was able to stop the leak in ONE TRIP. When I talked to him, to thank him personally, he informed me that he had received many calls over the past few months from the Summerville location regarding my truck because it was a diesel and that they were not familiar with how to properly fix it. He said that he had told them over and over again to just bring it to him and he would do it. Apparently they were too proud

MORAL: DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE AAMCO NAME. THEY ARE ALL INDIVIDUALLY OWNED AND OPERATED AND THE CORPORATE OFFICE IS OF LITTLE HELP.
