My husband and I of course are average americans living pay check to pay check. Not rich by any means. we did what most people do(now after looking in to it ) 67% to be exact do, went to a rent to own franchise. Aarons to be exact to get a computer to help us with a company we were just starting and needed to be able to keep in contact online and with paperwork. we could not afford to go and by one out right so we went there hoping to find something we could afford and know that it would not be a peice of crap. So my husband came home with it, i was so excited I wanted a laptop to be able to bring with me everywhere and do estimates right there.

So a week later I started having problems with the thing. I went through the paperwork to make sure it was new as it stated it was, and everything showed that it was. The keys were sticking all the time and then all the sudden I could not get online. The computer would freeze up. I thought maybe I did something. Being very computer literate, i put it in safe mood to see if it was anything to do with windows and with trail and error found out it was nothing I did to the computer. So I was pissed. So i did not go in to pay it on time. I unfortunetaly had a death in the family and we had to leave town for 2 weeks. They did come to my house once I guess cause there was one notice there. After we got home we went right there and I told them the thing was a piece of crap and gave it back to them, they then asked if we wanted to change to another one, so we said ok. Then said well in order to do so you need to pay for the other one up to the 15th it was only the 12th. and then pay for the other computer as well for those days too so double pay cause they could not change the computer to do it any other way. So i pay for the computer that i had that was junk. they turn around haVE THE manager come out and tell us we are not getting the other computer andf they just wanted us to pay up to date on our contract and we gave them the computer all ready and to leave. I told them i had a death and if it were a huge deal why did they not call they claim they did which if they did i would know it cause they are known to call 100 times a day... So i was pissed as I had just got a letter the same day from them saying I was a valued cusgtomer and that they wanted me to bring in the laptop and they would update it for free. they were only sending it to get me to bring in the computer and pay and then they were going to take it. So after leaving i said wait we paid for it for 3 more days go in and get it. So I called and told them i was coming to pick it up and they put me on hold. they then got on and said they would reimburse me and to come back and i told them the girl told me that she could not do that at all when i was there and made ahuge deal about charging me 20.00 extra dollars for it then charged me 15.00 to come to my house and 7.00 late charge so it cost me what it should had for a month for two weeks.

I called the cops and told them to come and pick up my merchandise. they came but because I let them have it they would not give it back had I not then there would be nothing they could do at all cause i paid for it. i told them that i had every right to pay on it in full and own it cause I still had a contract and they told me that they had already closed it out. I have never in my life seen anything like it. Just out of spite i pulled out my wallet at which i had 1200.00 in it and told them there loss i was going to go down to rent a center and buy one out right just because and i was going to tell them what they did to me. they then changed there attitude. no way will i ever go there again. but also I am going to fill a complaint on them. one for the moeny they had me pay for my contract at which they closed out so I should not had been liable to pay for it at all. and they tricked me into paying knowing they were closing it out. And I still was under the pay out contract and they would not allow me to do it. They scammed me and thought they had the last laugh but when they saw that we didn't care cause we had enough to buy one out right in my pocket I got the last laugh.... so jeremy i hope you know this is not over I will never allow anyone to try to out smart me ever. i will get my money back one way or another, i do not care if i make out with no money after paying court fees it is the principal that you know you are typically dealing with families with little money and you use them but they are the ones paying your bills every month so show some friggin respect. So now I have a bigger better computer that I bought and own for good no payments but the next time i think i need something and can't afford it i think i will save up and buy it out right and not deal with people like that.

biddeford aarons is a joke. i am a former employee of that place. the find every way possible to rip you off and steal your money, you can thank jimmy the greek for that. he owns the place and is the reason that place will go downhill. my advice is rent a center. atleast they treat you like a human and not a piece of dirt. jeremy bowman is just like jimmy the greek. cares bout noone but himself, customer service is at the bottom of the list. i hear bout him and aarons all the time and how they USED to go there and now they go to colortyme and rentacenter now. good choice if you ask me. they say they fix your computer when really they just run a defrag or something so it looks alittle better. trust me when i say going to aarons is a waste of time and money, they will say anything to get you to spend your money. ps- jimmy the greeks is horrible too. burnt dog crap on a plate.

The woman stated she had problems with her laptop. I worked at an Aaarons store here in Upstate NY for a while and have seen first hand the problems with MANY computers. First off your smart to save your money and buy outright. The amount you will spend over 12 or 24 months on a computer is ludacris unless you take full advantage of 90 days same as cash. However,on the 90 days same as cash option you are still paying 10-20% above most retail giants prices.

At Aarons profit is number one as with any other business. The advantage is that they are catering to the growing percentage of the population who are living paycheck to paycheck and in most cases have poor credit. When leasing an item to a customer it is always more profitable for the store to recieve monthly payments and not have the customer pay off in 90 days or less. In fact only once in a blue moon does one pay off in that short a time. In fact many people default on their lease and if they do return the item it is released to someone else. I have seen the same laptop leased to 5 different customers. Each time the computer came back dirty and infected with malware, viruses and system registry errors.

At Aaarons we would just "certify" the merchandise. In other words wipe it down and clean most of but not all of the crap out of the computers hard drive. If the merchandise is a couch or loveseat we "rug doctor" it and use a little "Febreese".

With funiture we use wax touch up crayons to fill in the scratches and furniture polish to finish. Beware, you have no idea how many times most of the "pre-leased"

items in the store have been leased. This is how the store makes its profit. There was even one case in which we picked up a living room set from a woman who had passed away the previous day and re-leased it a week later! Mattresses are constantly re-leased (very disgusting).

The point of this reply was to uncover some of the truths about the RTO (rent to own) business so that cosumers are aware of what they are getting into. Please save your money and buy new. If you pay for 24 months or even 12 months on something and spend 3-4 times the amount with fees, than you have the ability to save up for what you want to buy. "Do the Math", if you take $219.00 per month for a junky Mactavish sofa and loveseat. Instead save $219 a month for 12 months than you will have $2,628.00 to purchase a top quality sofa and loveseat that will last you 10-15 years.

this is jeremy bowman reporting in since me name is so clearly listed. this is my stores first report on here. i find it funny that it was who it was and we both know who it was. all my customers love the program we run here. we offer 5 days aging 5 days to contact us and let us know when they will be in to make it easier on them. and customers do great with it. we do get a few bad apples who cant handle a 2 minute phone call with in five days. i think everyone who knows the rto business will agree that a 2 week 1st payment default is pretty bad. by the way the computer was just fine. it just needed some system cleaning which many customers neglect to do and i am always more than happy to do for them. so dont worry business is better than ever so get used to seeing Aarons Sales and Lease on 380 elm in Biddeford ME. we are not going any where.
