We were denied a claim for damages caused by a water leak in our kitchen, we think, in a mobile home located in Yuma, AZ. The problem was noticed by my sister when she saw water running out the back door. The mobile home had been unoccupied for a month. We contacted our AARP recommended insurance company, Foremost, and after several calls were told an adjuster would be coming to check the damage. The adjuster made an appointment for Monday, October 13. On Saturday, October 11, we received a letter from Foremost, Nichole Leech of their Claims Dept., informing us that our claim is denied because we had no coverage for a broken water pipe caused by "wear and tear, marring, scratching, deterioration....". This person somehow looked through the magic telephone she has and saw under our sink that there was a worn pipe that was broken due to wear and tear. By the way, the home is 2 years old. I was not aware that a pipe can have wear and tear in such a new home that isn't even lived in full time. The damage to our mobile home is extensive. The floor is practically dissolved, the air conditioning ducting was completely melted by water, the insulation under the floor of the home has dissolved. We had the air conditioning ducting replaced (costing a little over $1,000) which we received approval for from another person at Foremost that my husband was able to reach - not Ms. Leech. Now, I suppose we'll have to pay that bill also. All in all, such a bad experience. We of course will cancel our policy and tell as many people as we can about the bad practices of Foremost--and of AARP for endorsing them, and are thinking about legal action.

Foremost Ripoff

AUTHOR: Nawtqt - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 21, 2008

I have commercial insurance on a mobile home. I, too have been ripped off by Foremost Insurance. It was also water damage to the kitchen floor while a tenant was renting. He was only there 5 months, but failed to report to me about the leak. When the insurance rep. took a look at the floor, he stated it was an "old leak" and therefore, the insurance would not pay for it. It wasn't an old leak and it did take a while for it to appear. By that time, the damage to the floor was done. My claim was denied. Now I have to replace the kitchen floor at my own expense.

I have had insurance on the contents of my shed for four years. Someone entered the shed where these things are stored and stole my riding tractor, push mower, and boxes of my personal belongings. I was told by the claim adjuster that I do not have "theft" insurance..., although I have been paying for it for the past four years. I did file a police report.

I plan to find another insurance company. Hopefully, a good one this time and hopefully one that is working for me and not the adjuster.

Ripoff Report retracted and apology offered

October 17, we received a call from a very nice man, Pete, from the Foremost Insurance Claims Department assuring us that our damage is covered by our policy and that he would be keeping an eye on the claim personally to see that all goes well. I'm sorry I didn't get his last name so I could acknowledge him in this note.

I am writing to Foremost and AARP apologizing for my irate report on your web site. They have been very courteous and understanding and we are happy to tell everyone we know about their outstanding service and that we highly recommend them.

I am very sorry that I misunderstood the "denial letter", but it seemed to me that if the pipe had broken and resulted in water damage, that damage, as well as the pipe, would not be covered. Anyway, we are very fortunate to be insured by Foremost and will continue to be a policy holder.
