The ad says "This one great card", well to my parents that card cost over $150,000 and horrible health care. It says it pays over and above Medicare, that is another lie! It says it is the only company officially endorsed by AARP; but look at the ad, there is an * astrick after the word endorse and then read the small print on the bottom.
"AARP is not an insurer and does not make reccomendations for individuals" it says they strongly encourage you to look at other plans.
Does that sound like an endorsement to you? Should a company that is known for taking care of the needs of senior citizens by "endorsing" an insurance company?
THE TRUTH......AARP gets paid for their endorsement, that is it! I was told by an AARP representative that "it was a business decision".
Secure Horizons discharged my father early from ICU, tried to send him to a skilled nursing facility after 2 brain surgieries (places where there were no CT scans, no doctors on site 24/7 and rated the worst in the state). We declined and are appealing, but since no specific "network postings" are availiable, we cannot prove that he had other choices. Senator Grassley quoted in USA today, November, 7, 2008 "that AARP ads are is misleading marketing"!

AARP DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE THEY CLAIM TO BE ADVOCATES FOR

My issue was with their affiliation with AETNA Healthcare,
When I was laid off in Mar 08, I applied for health insurance with AARP/AETNA due to our ages and the fact we have pre-existing conditions.
AETNA violated FEDERAL HIPAA law by turning us down because we have pre-existing conditions. HIPAA states that if you have had medical coverage already that covers those conditions you cannot be turned down by any insurance carrier if you lose your job.
That is exactly what AARP/AETNA did to us. When I disputed it as a HIPAA Violation - AETNA came back with "we are not a guaranteed health plan - so HIPAA does not apply to us". Which is BS - it applies to ALL HEATH INSURANCE PROVIDERS. I escalated to AARP about it and they said they would look into it - THEN DID NOTHING!
I followed the dispute instructions with filing complaints with the Government - filed exactly where they told me to file, only to receive a letter back stating that they are not the correct organization to dispute with and that was handled by the Dept of Labor - Have never heard from them either.
So now I am spending a 1/4th of monthly income to maintain my Cobra Coverage.

AARP APPARENTLY CARES MORE ABOUT RIPPING OFF SENIOR CITIZENS THAN BEING OUR ADVOCATES

THEY HAVE ALREADY STOOPED TO TAKING MONEY FROM ALL DONORS FOR THEIR SCAM AARP FOUNDATION WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO HELD SENIOR CITIZENS GET WORK YET I DO NOT KNOW ANY SENIOR WOMAN THEY HAVE REALLY HELPED FIND AND KEEP A JOB! NOT ONE!
I DON'T SEE THAT THEY ARE DOING ANYTHING EXCEPT STAYING IN AN OFFICE, SURFING THE INTERNET AND BEING INCREDIBLY RUDE AND INSENSITIVE TO THE OLDER PEOPLE WHO SEE THEIR ADS ON THE BUS AND COME TO THAT LOCATION FOR HELP IN FINDING EMPLOYMENT.
AND NOW I READ ABOUT THIS SENIOR HEALTH CARE SCAM FROM AARP! OR AT LEAST IT SEEMS LIKE A SCAM TO ME..
YES, IF MY EYES WERE AS BAD AS MOST OF MY FRIENDS AND COULDN'T SEE THE ASTERISK OR THE SMALL PRINT OR BELIEVED IN THE INTEGRITY OF THE AARP WHICH IS NO LONGER MY FATHER'S AARP...
Should a company that is known for taking care of the needs of senior citizens by "endorsing" an insurance company?
THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT US ANYMORE. WE ARE JUST WALLETS WITH LEGS TO THESE SCUMBAFS.
THE TRUTH......AARP gets paid for their endorsement, that is it! I was told by an AARP representative that "it was a business decision".
AND I HOPE MORE AND MORE OLDER PEOPLE REFUSE TO BE TAKEN IN BY AARP. THEY STOPPED BEING AN ADVOCATE FOR US ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO.
