They told me from the start of class that 70% was a passing grade.  I took the test at the end of the course and scored 74%.  I then was told, I would need to bring this up to 90% to pass.  I then emailed them questioning on this and they said I actually bombed and they gave me the 74% to make me feel better from bombing out.  I had kept telling them all week I am not retaining this and they kept saying you will get it and their book mentions if you have problems to tell them and they would work with you one on one and they did not and didn't even offer.  I told them that they should not lie to their customer and this is very unethical and should have been honest about the score from the start.  I feel I got nothing out of this class except lose 250.00 and I would never recommend them to anyone.  I have also filed a complaint with the BBB as that is not right

The director of the Denver chapter of ABC Bartending school lied to me as well.

When I went in to speak with him before enrolling I asked about rumors I had heard.  I asked if the job placement assistance was nothing more than just a list of places that are hiring.

The director told me no.  He said the job placement assistance was three to four graduates set up with interviews every week at bars and restaurants that matched what they were looking for.

So, because I "won free tuition" at a job fair it only cost me $150 to sign up for a one week course.

The course was nothing I couldn't have learned working at a bar.  The course also included dozens of drinks that are never ordered in Colorado.  When was the last time you were at a sports bar in Colorado and someone ordered a Singapore Sling?

But, my carrot at the end of the course was the job placement.  I was looking forward to that a great deal.

I scored 80% on the final exam, and was told that wasn't good enough.  I wasn't told what I needed to score.  So, I took another test and got 80% again.  It was after the second test that I was finally told I needed to score a 90%.  But wait!  Good news! Just hand ABC Bartending School an additional $30 to take an online course and I can graduate.  So, like an idiot, I paid.  Took the test.  And finally graduated.  I filled out a little demographic form where I listed what kind of places I wanted to work and what area of town I wanted to work in.

As it turns out, the "job placement assistance" was nothing more than a weekly list of places that might be hiring and a "good luck".  I received three list and went to half the places on them.  The reason I went to only half is because those were the places that were a 40 minute drive or less away.  One of the places was in Johnstown.  I had to Google map it.  Johnstown is over an hour away from where I live...Another bar on a list wanted a bi-lingual female.  I'm a male that only knows English.  I began thinking the lists weren't set up according to the form I filled out...

Of the places I went, 75% weren't even hiring bartenders at the time.  If they were hiring, they were hiring servers, or bussers, or hosts.  Too bad I went to BARTENDING SCHOOL.  I didn't go to busser school, but bartender and busser both start with the letter B, so someone might have been confused.  Or, the place wanted a female.  Not a male like me.

The only thing that every establishment on the list had in common was absolutely no reaction when I said I was a recent graduate of ABC Bartending School.  Doesn't sound like the called the school for a graduate does it?

So, I made a complaint with the director of the Denver school and even with the owner of the company.  All they did was insult me and continually bring up how little I spent on the course.  It was like they were justifying my treatment with a price tag.  I wonder how much one would have to spend to be treated right?

The school has stopped sending me weekly placement lists long ago.  They weren't helping anyway.  Has refused to give me copies of documents I signed when I enrolled.  I thought that practice was illegal.  And ceased communication with me.

I urge everyone to avoid ABC Bartending School like the plague!  They lie, they scam and they will do nothing for you but take your money!

I too have sent complaints to the BBB, the Colorado Board of Higher Education, and am considering sending one to the State of Colorado Attorney General's office.
I would love if someone started a class action lawsuit against ABC Bartending School and shuts down the Denver chapter.
