I worked for CheapTrips.com, actually, Marketing Unlimited is the name of the company I worked for. Marketing Unlimited gets information form companies that are having a hard time selling their products. Then, Marketing Unlimited gets them all sorts of Online Advertisments. These advertisments may read: "GET 2 FREE airline tickets if you join" OR "Learn more about CheapTrips.com" Atleast, that is what it said in our scripts we had to read off to random people.

When I took this job, I was told it was not cold-calling, meaning randomly calling people and they have no knowledge I am doing so. The script also says that "you've might've visited one of our partner websites" This basically means (from the people I've phoned that day) that they had taken surveys, and stopped once they had to pay (as would any of us, right?) Or, they clicked on "Get a FREE makeup bag" or something like that. Don't click on them. Once one site can get your name, phone number, and address, a lot of other companies get this information too.

When I was told i have the job, there was no resume needed upon hiring. All I did was call this company, gave them a very little bit of information, and about 2 days later, I'm hired. That right there is too good to be true.

I can't apologize enough to all those people I had to call yesterday. I felt so bad. If I may have called you, I'm sorry. I only sold one membership package yesterday, and to that woman, I'm sorry for any hassle you may have in the future. Also, with certain sites, if you click on it and just type in your name, this site will know where you are (using your I.P. address) and then, it is on our systems.

I worked for this company for one day, and my stress levels went through the roof driving home. I'm sorry, but I can't go through life knowing that I messed up people's life's yesterday. I'm no longer working there as of today. So, to everyone, Please be careful when going online. It's a sick world out there.

Also, if you were told not to be called again, the person calling you should've pressed the F12 button. It's the no call button in the system.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

My grandfather was ripped off by these clowns too

AUTHOR: Angela - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 17, 2008

This is in response to the "owner" of a cheaptrips call center. If cheaptrips is so reputable then why was my grandfather scammed by cheaptrips?

If they are so reputable why are there a ton of complaints registered with the DA? If they are so reputale then why do they have an UNSATISFACTORY record with the BBB?

#1 UPDATE Employee

Telemarketing isn't for everyone

AUTHOR: Brian - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 07, 2008

I own a call center that sells memberships to CheapTrips.com (not the one this girl worked for). I find it disturbing that this site would post a comment from an ex-employee that has no merit. This girl was given a job opportunity and thinks it is too good to be true. is she not a qualified person?

At our call center, we give many people a chance to prove themselves and keep a good job. Sales is not for everyone, especially telemarketing!

CheapTrips.com uses telemarketing centers to market their membership. The names are generated via the internet from surveys, banners, and other online marketing efforts. People that click "Yes", they would like more information about CheapTrips.com or "Get 2 Free roundtrip airline tickets when you join" are compiled into a lead list for our telemarketers to call. This is a very common practice for marketing companies and does not break any laws.

The service & membership provided to CheapTrips.com members is very valuable to people that travel. People that are not big travelers or do not plan on traveling much, may not get a lot of value from the membership. Most likely they were only interested in the FREE tickets.

Guess what? the FREE tickets come with the membership. There are a couple of hoops you must jump through to use the free tickets, but they are REAL. Many of the complaints about receiving refunds stem back from people trying to keep the FREE tickets and send the rest of their packet back. Funny huh.. they try to keep the FREE tickets but cancel the membership & get a full refund.

If you want your refund, cancel within the 30 days. Send back ALL of your membership materials, including your FREE roundtrip airline tickets and you will promptly be refunded the purchase price.

Stop defaming a good company that helps a lot of people save money on travel and provides a good job opportunity for those interested in telemarketing & sales.
