Account Control Technology ACT Misrepresented Themselves to Get Personal Information About a Friend Canoga Park California

This company called me and said that a friend had listed me as a personal reference for an application that he had submitted.  They implied it was a job application.  They tried to get me to divulge personal information about my friend.  They refused to answer questions about who they were, why they were calling, or what kind of application he had submitted (he is retired).  I did not believe that he would list me as a reference for anything without asking first, so I was suspicious.  I checked with my friend who reassured me that he had not listed me as a reference for anything, and had not submitted any applications for any reason.  I called the company's number back and a different person gave me the "listed you as a reference on an application" line, but then backtracked and said he couldn't explain why I had been contacted when I accused their previous caller of misrepresentation.  Basically, they seem to be trolling for personal information and probably found the connection between me and my friend on facebook.  They flatly misrepresented themselves and were just digging for personal information.
