I was first introduced to Tom McDonald a recruiter for Accretive Solutions in Jacksonville Florida over a year ago. We had one (1) interview where he took all my details. He stated he would get back to me in a "couple of weeks" because there were several placements that he had at one of his client companies. I never received any return phone or email contact.
I had to initiate the contact before he would respond. McDonald then referred me to a woman staff member who was going to contact me. Once again I was forced to initiate contact only to be fooled that she was going to do somethng.
McDonald and I had a few Email exchanges. Frustrated I stopped calling. Prospects that McDonald told me about I had to assume were not real. I decided to vent my frustration to McDonald and BBC'd his boss. Some time after that there was no communication till today 04/29/2011.
Here is a man who "talks the talk" and didn't walk the walk with me. He decided to ignore me because he "found out" that I BCC'd his boss!! I am the client needing a job, asking for help and McDonald makes a secret decision not to have me as a client. Fine did he communicate that? No! He just let me linger for over a year.
The Email exchanges below tell the whole story from my initial Email to my reply and forward to his Boss:
It makes great reading.

Hey Tom,
Remember me?
Whatever happened to a position for me?
I think I have waited way too long don't you think?
Peter.

Peter when my boss, Tom King, notified me that you were sending me emails and blind copying him, I made a decision not to work with you as a candidate. Thats just not the kind of professional relationship I have with my candidates. Keep in mind as you work with other recruiters in the future that we work for our paying clients to provide them with the best talent available to fill their positions; we dont promise any particular candidate we can find them a job.
Best wishes. Tom.

What a lot of rubbish!
I copied him once because I was not getting any response from you.
You talk about professionalism, how about doing your job properly.
Your a disgrace to your profession.
I regret ever having dealt with you.

Mr King,
Since McDonald decided to copy you on his response to me he opened the door for me to copy you regarding my reply.
Peter.
End of Emails.
Note:
McDonald made the decision not to work with me? I thought I was in the hands of Accretive Solutions!!
McDonald was the person who would not touch base and probably was untruthful about there ever being a job on their books!
McDonald never had the professional courtesy to to let me know I was off the books!
I would never, ever recommend these time-wasting, unprofessional people to anyone. If you want false hope then register with them!
Note the sarcasm at the end of McDonald's reply "Best wishes, Tom".

Professionalism

Thank you once again for responding to my response. You are clearly missing my point. I BCC'ed his boss because I was not getting ANY response! This was not after the first instance. This was after two (2) months of false statements by Mcdonald.
I have dealt with dozens of recuiters and non of them have ever placed me although they were extremely professional. Every position I have obtained has been by my personal effort even though I tried to get recruiter help and assistance so that I wouldn't leave "all my eggs in one basket".
Obviously you are a recuiter defending the indefensible. If you think that not keeping in touch with your candidates after you specifically tell them that you will contact them then you are just as bad and unprofessional as McDonald. I am suspecting that you may even be employed by Accretive Solutions. Am I right?
If you want professionalism perhaps McDonald's boss should not have told him about the Bcc. That's called managerial maturity and could have been handled in a number of different ways like checking on processes in their agency. Instead of rising above all this Mcdonald chose to take his ball home and not play so to speak.
Your one sided look at this is obviouly pro-recruiter, period. You may not have had the need to seek them out in which case you are one of the fortunate ones.Mcdonald can now stay with his low level placements - I am doing just fine.
My venting here is not that at all. I am stating facts which I have included in the original report.
This is about a how I was treated, what I was promised and what was not delivered so that others do not have the same frustrating experience.
In any case this is not about you or me.

Something that does matter

You have obviously never heard of not putting all your eggs in one basket.
You are obviously an inexperienced or immature job hunter.
You obviously misunderstand who the recruiter is working for. The recruiter is not working for you (unless you are telling me this is a fee based agency). Companies sign contracts with recruiting companies to go through the process of interviewing and selecting (or at least narrowing their candidates) candidates for job opportunities. So the recruiter is concerned about placing a qualified candidate with a company and that is how they make their money (or money for their agency).
When a recruiter says that they will contact you for something they feel you are qualified for they will. If they do not think you are a good candidate then they won't contact you.
As I tried to explain to you before job requirements change. Recruiters are then required to go through resumes again (and again, and again). If the requirements changed or something fell through then he no longer has those placements becoming available.
Professionalism is a two way street Peter. If you are not happy about the recruiter then just move on. If you are going to vent your frustration then instead of a BCC do a regular copy to his boss (how did you find out that info). Quite frankly that is very unprofessional in itself.

Does Professionalism Matter?

Thank you for taking the time to address my issue/complaint with McDonald. It doesn't matter how many recruiters I have been too.It doesn't matter how I was introduced to Tom McDonald. It doesn't even matter that he sees 10 or 100s of people a week or a month.
What does matter is that when McDonald says he will call, follow-up or email within two weeks (or another time frame) that he do just that and honor that statement/commitment. The person (me for instance) is hanging and waiting for that call or Email.
Poor form all round Tom McDonald - big ZERO as far as a recruiter is concerned.
Peter.

How were you introduced??

Well Pete I can say I understand your frustration but how many recruiters have you dealt with??
Are you having a hard time finding a job??
General rule of thumb when dealing with recruiters is not to piss them off. You are looking at things from a single point of view (on the outside looking in). If Tom is like most recruiters I have interviewed with or even just had a casual conversation about my background then you have to understand that this guy talks with hundreds of job candidates a month.
Recruiters also have to deal with hiring managers who expectations change on a daily (and sometimes hourly basis). In addition to that jobs are often filled from within the companies themselves by people the hiring manager wants to hire and they merely go through the process of interviewing or scheduling interviews when a decision has already been made.
Your best option in job hunting is to establish a relationship with many recruiters from different companies or even agencies. All these recruiters know each other and often share information about job candidates between themselves so that even though he may not have been able to get you a position through his agency then he could refer you to someone that could help you out.
