This company came out to clean my vents and furnace for $79, as advertised in the Valpak mailer I received.  When they came out, they informed me that the returns would cost an additional $199 to clean.  I found this skeptical considering I was having 10 vents cleaned for $79.  I only have 4 returns.  I refused the service.  They hooked a large machine to the main duct, then ran around my home with a shop-vac and a 10-foot brush to clean all the vents.

Immediately after they left, I called the customer service hotline and pretended to be a new customer inquiring about the additional cost of return cleaning.  The woman told me that it would be $12-$20 per vent, NOT the $199 that the technician quoted me.  I told her how her tech tried to scam me and said I wanted somebody back out IMMEDIATELY (the same day) to do the return vent cleaning.  I am a week away from having my baby and did not have time to reschedule due to their tech's incompetence. 

She said that they could reschedule me for another day at the $12-$20/vent price.  I told her that it was inconvenient to reschedule and I would like some kind of discount for the tech having made this a very unpleasant experience and not completing all of the work while he was here. She told me that I was being unreasonable.  She would not put me in touch with the owner that she was talking to while on the phone with me and only gave me his email address.  I have emailed him and have not heard anything back.

After the call, I went in the basement and noticed that the vent cover was not replaced where their  machine was hooked up at the main duct.  I peeked my head in there with a flashlight and took pictures.  The main duct was FILTHY.  I can only imagine what the rest of the lengths of duct look like if they couldn't even efficiently clean within three feet of where their machine was attached.  I called customer service again, but now the woman handling my claim was at lunch (at 4pm) and they told me that the owner should be contacting me by the end of the day.  Meanwhile, the technician has called me twice to try to discuss my dissatisfaction with his service, but I told him that I would rather not deal with him since he cannot solve my issues.  He continues to call even though I have continuously hung up on him when I cannot get him to end the conversation.  I have not heard from the owner.

Can It Get Any Worse??

Well, in addition to everything mentioned in my original report, I wake up this morning and it is 58 degrees in my home.  Apparently the tech flipped a kill switch that is behind my furnace to turn it off rather than use the thermostat or breaker, and he never turned the unit back on before he left.  I had a warm mist humidifier running in my bedroom overnight, which I run every night.  Because of the difference in temperature, humidifier created condensation throughout my entire bedroom and now there is water damage to the walls.  I can't believe that this is all happening....
