WHAT A NIGHTMARISH EXPERIENCE!
STAY AWAY FROM ACER, AS THEY WILL INVENT ANYTHING TO AVOID SERVICING YOUR COMPUTER... BACK IN LATE MARCH-EARLY APRIL 2012, I PURCHASED WITH STATE UNIVERSITY (RESEARCH I) MONEY AN ACER LAPTOP THAT WAS TOP OF THE LINE (I NEEDED A FAST MACHINE FOR COMPUTATION). ANYWAY, THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT SOME THREE WEEKS AGO (EARLY AUGUST 2012), THE KEYBOARD MALFUNCTIONED (AND SOME KEYS WERE NON-RESPONSIVE). AFTER CALLING THE SERVICE CENTER, I WAS ADVISED TO SAVE EVERYTHING FROM THE HD (MY INFO AND DOCUMENTS) AND SEND IT TO THEIR TEXAS LOCATION TO BE SERVICED (UNDER THE ONE-YEAR WARRANTY POLICY). I WAS ABLE TO SAVE ALL MY INFO (LUCKY ME!), BUT NOTICED A PUNGENT ODOR AND SOME WIRE CORROSION WHEN THE MACHINE WAS OPENED. ANYWAY, THE COMPUTER WAS SENT TO THEIR TEXAS LOCATION AND SOME FIVE DAYS AFTER THAT I GOT A PHONE CALL INFORMING ME THAT THE MACHINE WAS A TOTAL LOSS AND THAT IT COULD NOT BE SERVICED. THEIR ARGUMENT WAS THAT THERE WAS A SPILL WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM... I TRIED TO ARGUE WITH THEM AND WAS MOVED TO THE "ESCALATION DEPT." NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT WAS ALL IN VAIN... I'M HUGELY FRUSTRATED AND BELIEVE THAT IT'S EXTREMELY UNFAIR (I JUST WISH THEY PUT IN MY SHOES)... THIS IS THE WORST EXPERIENCE AND SERVICE THAT I HAD EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE... EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL (WHAT A BAD BUSINESS!)...
MY KIND ADVICE: STAY AWAY FROM ACER PRODUCTS! DO NOT BUY THEM BECAUSE THEY WILL FAIL IN VERY SHORT TIME AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR WARRANTY! BE WARNED...

Acer repair service is a scam!
AUTHOR: kat - ()
SUBMITTED: Friday, April 12, 2013
Guys, I had similar problem as OP. I didn't spill anything on my laptop, i didn't take it apart. The Acer Service Corp in TX said there is a spill and wanted $200. I decided to cut my losses and better spent money on a lawsuit even if i can lose. I don't know if the spill was there before, if the computer was manufactured in wrong conditions with moister, or repair service spill something right there and scamming me. I know 100% i didn't expose my laptop to any moister other than a normal humidity in the air. Acer is not a reputable company any more.

Niko.. Exactly which posting insulted the OP?

You are absolutely right Niko everyone has the right to post what they believe to be a real or perceived ripoff.
In this case the OP references a pungent odor that he noticed when he and/or his friends opened the case presumably to remove the HD so that they could they could install it in another laptop to copy over its contents.
The original complaint was that the keys were sticking and it was having some other kind of malfunctions. If someone reads over their warranty that comes with the laptop they will see that problems that are the result of accidental damage is not covered under the warranty.
I guess the key question would be did the OP report this odor as one of the symptoms or was the OP trying to pull something off by just saying "The keyboard is sticking" when he called in the problem and got the shipping label to mail the laptop to the service center.
Once the service center received the laptop they also noticed the pungent odor as well as the fact that the keys were not working on the keyboard. They made a further determination that something had been spilled on the keyboard and therefore was not serviceable and that a replacement laptop was not feasible because of the "ACCIDENTAL" damage that occurred to the laptop. I don't see anything to the contrary from the OP stating that at no time did anyone accidentally spill anything so then he must be admitting that in fact something had been spilled and it caused the keyboards to stick and subsequently the spill caused more damage to the board.
I recently bought an Acer that was DOA and they promptly replaced the HDD and sent it back and it has been working fine ever since.
Some advice to the OP would be to consider the possibility of investing in an extended warranty that includes ACCIDENTAL damage (or maybe even intentional). Considering that he/she may be living in a dorm or sharing living spaces with others that are not totally responsible for their actions may make that a good option since I don't see anything here that would give me the impression that whoever did damage the OP's laptop is not taking the initiative to replace it either.

only team rebutt attacks, the OP has a right to post in peace and get it off his or her chest,. Team rebutt seems to believe the world should bow to their comments.

Niko234 you are directing your anger towards the wrong person

The person you should be directing your anger towards is The Outlaw Josie Wales.
First 3 different people made comments towards the Original Posters Post, commenting on his remarks towards ACER.
These were constructive remarks regarding the laptop, and the possibility of a spill.
The Outlaw Josie Wales, is one of the 99pct bone heads who blames corporate America for all of our woes, and goes after any one who dare suggest any thing otherwise.
He is the one who fired off the first attack about the 3 posts, so I would suggest that before you go and place blame on all the parties, you should first examine all the circumstances, before you call all the parties involved "Junior High School Students".

Well, in reading the raging battle between Josey and Team Rebutt one has to wonder? Do all of you sit in your little cubicles in the public library plotting what to say next? I think all of you have progressed past the 3rd grade and are at least in middle school. Yes, I do believe those are the arguments I once had myself as a middle school student. In fact, I know it is name calling, harsh words and the futile attempt of using big people words makes all of you more laughable. Do you use this site in order to make yourselves sleep better at night? Is this your idea of a nightcap. Granted, some people post outlandish claims who should probably have their head looked at. However, some people come to this site for realistic help. Insulting people is just plain childish and rude.
How about instead of fighting among your pathetic selves you try helping people out. We all love our freedoms and granted you do have that right. However, I would think to believe that there is some good in all of you. That being said if there is just some outlandish claim well then it should be an open free for all. I have read quite a few of your rebuttals and so called "tips". They mostly amount to nothing more than just plain insults. I do not know what your career fields are nor do I care. Trolling this site looking for people to ridicule is just plain wrong. If it is decent gripe offer some real advice or just shut up.
I look forward to your futile attempts to bash me and know that no matter what you say I will always think of you the same way. If you troll a site just to inform someone they do not meet your intelligence standards well your an idiot too. Actually I think that falls under insanity too. All of you do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. In ending I will say it one more time GROW UP YOUR AN INSULT TO THE HUMAN RACE!
Thank you

Perhaps if you mastered the skill of reading comprehension you would be able to understand what we are saying. You see I know you need pictures though, because you always seem to include some art work of some kind on every post.
next Time I will try to include some art work for you , so you can look at a pretty picture and understand what we are trying to say.
You will graduate from 3rd grade soon, so there is still hope for you yet.

Read over your warranty
AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, August 22, 2012
I doubt very seriously the one year warranty includes repairing damage or replacement of a laptop that was damaged as a result or your (or someone you know) negligence that resulted in your keyboard having something spilled on it.
Did you get any kind of warranty that covers accidental damage? Since you bought this laptop with state money it is not really yours anyway.

the pungent odor when your laptop was opened is a clue as to what happened
AUTHOR: IamGood - (USA)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, August 22, 2012
I would say the smell from inside your laptop is a clue that someone, or somehow some liquid was spilled into the keyboard.
I have a question though, why would you need to open the laptop to back up the data? Or did some other service company open it up for you?
Sorry, I dont really think that Acer Lied to you. They are a reputable company, and make a solid product. I dont think they would ruin a good rep just to avoid trying to fix a computer that is only 4 months old.
Sorry

If you are involved in research you will know that all capitals is first and foremost hard to read, if you want people to understand your issue don't do this.
Second, ACER doesn't lie about this crud, someone poured or spilt something in your laptop.
Since this is the third or fourth time I have seen this copy and pasted report in last little while I am guessing that this isn't getting you anywhere.
File a small claims case or give up.
