I used Acre Mortgage for my loan on my first house because they worked with the Realtor that was recommended to me. I felt safe with this company and was confident that they would be looking out for my best interest and "taking care of me" as they, along with my realtor, had promised so many times.
I was told that if I paid off some old bills on my credit report, my credit would be re-evaluated prior to my loan being processed and I could get a better interest rate. I spent all the money I had in my bank account to pay off these old bills. I was also told that I qualified for a lower PMI (mortgage insurance) as long as I went to settlement 1 month earlier to meet the deadline to participate in that program for the PMI. I got the settlement pushed up to meet that requirement.
Two days before settlement, Jeff Lewis tells me that my interest rate was not going to be lowered and my credit would not be re-evaluated. He said that he never told me it would be and that he didn't know why I thought that it would be. He had me pay off a couple thousand dollars for old bills that, according to him, now did not make a difference and would not affect my rate in any way. He also informed me that I didn't actually qualify for the lower PMI program and my monthly payment would be higher because of that. This is 2 days before settlement and there is no way to get out of it.
I told him that there was no way I could actually afford that kind of payment. It was not was I was expecting or applied for. I told him the absolute highest amount I could afford to pay each month and I ended up with a mortgage payment 400 dollars more than that amount.
I was forced to go through with settlement and I now own a house that I can't afford. I requested (multiple times) a copy of the mortgage application which shows what I actually applied for and agreed to. Jeff Lewis, my loan officer, has refused to produce a copy of that loan application for me. I have been requesting that document since July 16th (it has now been over a month ) and I am not able to see what legally binded me to be forced into this mortgage. Jeff Lewis told me that I was legally binded and there was nothing I could do to get out of it; however, he will not show me a document that I have a right to see, a document that I signed, a legal document that should have been there at settlement (it conveniently was not).
Acre Mortgage forced me into a mortgage by threatening me. If there was nothing dirty about the "deal" I got, there should have been no problem with letting me see what legally binded me to that mortgage. They still refuse to show me that application.
The Realtor that I used, Joe Parent (Colonial Real Estate), has promised that he would get a copy of the application for me, since they work in the same office, and not only has he not gotten that for me, he completely washed his hands of the situation as soon as he got his check. From that moment on, he wanted nothing more to do with me. This was someone I trusted because it was a friend of a friend.
Jeff Lewis should not be allowed to force people into something they cannot afford. Joe Parent should not be allowed to work in real estate- instead of researching to find the correct answer to your question, he just guesses and convincingly tells you the "answer". You'll find out later on that it was the wrong answer.
