I love my home in Acres of Paradise Mobile Home Park in Paradise, California, I like living in Paradise, and I can't afford to move.
My dog Tess slipped out of the yard to lay in the sun in the street in front of my home. A neighbor found her and took her to the manager (Nina Panekd) so she could return her to her owner. Frank Panek has seen Tess numerous times in the 7 years I've lived here and has her picture on file. Next day, when I found out where she was, I went to the manager’s home and asked for her back. Frank Panek, Nina’s husband, refused to give her back, stating “she’s mine now” closing the door. I said she was mine and I wanted her back; Frank stated I couldn't have her. I said I'd call the police and he started ranting that if I did he would file a report of animal cruelty by me. I returned home and called the police who got her back for me, and I signed a complaint against them for trying to steal Tess, though it is just a ticket.
This is an example of the way the manager and her husband mistreat the senior residents in this park. Even though the owners have received many complaints through the years, Nina Panek and her husband continue to “manage” this park, which has deteriorated since I moved in. There seems no protection through the California Codes (MRL) since there is no one to enforce them and residents have been driven to leave their homes. Almost half the mobile home are empty (some in such bad condition they can't give them away), no one rents the overnight spaces, residents just move (leaving their homes to the park), and yet we can't get a decent manager in here to improve conditions.
My pets and I are a family, sharing my recliner and bed, and someone trying to steal one of them was heart breaking. There should be a better law than a ticket.
