Hal Butler has been around the Nashville area for over 10 years now offering his classes for people to take the actuarial exams. Mr. Butler is careful not to make any written promises concerning actively trying to place his clients. Verbally, however, Mr. Butler strongly insists that he has will quickly place any candidate which passes the exam. He continues to insist even if the candidate states up front that he or she will not leave the Nashville area.

I passed the exam with a perfect score. Over the next 8 months it took me to find my own position, Mr. Butler did not find me a single lead or interview. I have talked to several other actuaries in the Nashville area who took Mr. Butler's class, they all have similar stories.

As far as I know, Mr. Butler has not placed a single candidate in or around Nashville. Furthermore, over the past several years, the company I work at has had several openings. Mr. Butler has not sent a single resume. He could have easily seen the positionw by checking the company website, or reading adds in the trade publications.

As far as I can tell, Actuarial Innovations' main business model is to offer exam classes. In order to fill seats, Mr. Butler verbally promises quick job placement for anyone who passes the exam, but I don't know any actuaries he has placed. On the other hand I know several actuaries who took his class and then found positions themselves.

Actuary Innovations (hal Butler) and all the good that he does for his candidates and their careers

AUTHOR: Tami - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 27, 2009

Actuary/Medical Innovations ,Hal Butler And All The Good That He Does For His Candidates And Their Careers Lebanon Tennessee

Actuary field and I told him about Actuary/Medical Innovations and how I got started in the Actuary field, only to find out later from him that this web site exists and what has been posted on this web site. I worked for Actuary/Medical Innovations from 1998 til 2006, and during that time we never once had any complaints about or pertaining to Actuary/Medical Innovations or Mr. Butler's reputation. I started out as a recruiter for Actuary/Medical Innovations, and like a lot of other people didn't know much about Actuaries and what they did. After being with the company for only a few months I got well educated about Actuaries and the companies that hire them, because I worked directly with the hiring companies. So, I have first hand knowledge of how many people go through Actuary/Medical Innovations prep classes per year, how many on average actually pass the first exam, and how many jobs for Assistant Actuarial Analyst position that are filled through Actuary/Medical Innovations efforts, (Because I Am One Of The Ones That Has Been Through The Prep Class And Was Placed By Actuary/Medical Innovations Going On 3 Years).

While working for Actuary/Medical Innovations there was always a file on hand that contained letters of recommendations from companies that paid a fee for Mr. Butler's services, as well as, candidates that have gone through this prep class and have been placed, and also from candidates that didn't pass the exam the first time but still had only good things to say about the learning experience and how this process helped to getting them one step closer to achieving a career goal that they never would have known about if it wasn't for Actuary/Medical Innovations and Mr. Butler. Just like the few that had been posted on one of the rebuttals.

We live in one of the greatest country's ever, the United States of America, and in doing so we get many privileges that most country's don't. One of which is freedom of speech, and another is the freedom of the press. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, just like I do; however, from some of the things that have been written about Actuary/Medical Innovations, but mainly Mr. Butler it just sounds like to me (again this is my personal opinion) that these few people either couldn't do the work and pass the exam or was not willing to put forth the extra effort into meeting the requirements that have to be met in order for Actuary/Medical Innovations to get their process started. When I first decided to take the prep class I knew that it was going to take more than going to a few classes, which several candidates that were in my class thought, to pass this exam. The professor was great and taught us how to take the exam, and by that I mean he showed us which problems to spend the most time on, as well as teaching little tricks on the calculator. But there was still a lot of studying to be done. I spent over 250 hours studying for the first Actuary Exam, but even with all of the studying I still needed the insight from the professor or I would have never passed.

One of the things stated in one of the other complaints was Mr. Butler was just wanting money for people to take a class and that there were no real jobs. Again, haven worked for this company I can tell anyone that is interested that there are plenty of jobs and in many different states, but as far as Mr. Butler wanting peoples money for this class (FYI individuals the fees that are paid to take this prep class are used to pay for the class room, the professor, and to pay for materials that are handed out) so math people do the numbers. After expenses Actuary/Medical Innovations still has to put money in the pot to get this process going. Were Actuary/Medical Innovations makes their money is when a candidate passes the first exam and is placed through the efforts of Actuary/Medical Innovations with some of their hiring companies, in which they have signed contracts with, for fees up to 20% of the candidates annul salary for the first year, again this doesn't cost the candidate themselves any money. I still don't get it no one forced me to take the prep class that was my decision, and one I will never regret, because again I am starting on my third year as an Assistant Actuarial Analyst. Just like it was everyone else's decision to take the prep class. No one forced them into taking it either. Yes, I did have to pay money up front to take the class, but I also had to pay up front for every class that I took in college, also. The only difference is Actuary/Medical Innovations reimburse me back every expense that I was out for taking this class, just like he did for the other candidates that passed the same exam and went to work for one of his hiring companies. There was even on person who passed the exam and went to a company that Actuary/Medical Innovations was working with in Houston, TX. The possibilities are unlimited.

So, again this is just my experience with Actuary/Medical Innovations and how they helped me get into a career that will take me as far as I want to go with it. The Sky is the Limit, but I own a large part of it the Actuary/Medical Innovations, as well as, Hal Butler. And if anyone wants to go to work in the Cookeville, TN area in the next few months then they need to contact Actuary/Medical Innovations because Mr. Butler has the only contract with the company that I work for, and we have someone fixing to retire.

So for anyone interested in applying for a position that Actuary/Medical Innovations has available please don't trust what a few negative people have to say, because there are a lot more positive people for Actuary/Medical Innovations than negative. So be your own person and let you heart be your guide, that is what I did and I am now going into the Actuary field for my 3 year.

Again, before making any decision based on this web site, which I have never even heard of before today, check with a company that has been around for many years and will continue to be around for many more years to come. The Better Business Bureau, anyone can check with the BBB and find out what rating Actuary/Medical Innovations has, just like I did. They have an A rating which is great.

Sincerely,

Tami (A very happy Assistant Actuarial Analyst)

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

President/CEO

AUTHOR: Hal - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 24, 2009

In response to Andrew and (Hal Actuarial Innovations verbally misrepresented himself); Please note this will be the only rebuttal.
First, I would like to say that I have been in business since 1988, that is more than 10 years, and second, yes, Actuary Innovations does offer a review class to prepare individuals for the first Actuarial Exam if they haven't already taken it. That is no great secret, nor do we in any way try and make it one. Yes, everything that is gone over in the first interview (for the candidates that are interested in taking the prep class) is in writing.

Also, Actuary Innovations does stress the fact that we have Assistant Actuarial Analyst Positions available for immediate employment upon passing of the first Actuary Exam, however; we also state that Actuary Innovations has to do a background check, reference checks, and drug screening as well, which some candidates have refused to do upon passing the first exam. In these cases we can not submit their resumes. Once a candidate has passed the first exam Actuary Innovations ask them to revise their resume showing that they have passed the first exam, along with sending a copy of their Actuary Exam Scores. Which I have gone through all of Actuary Innovations records and I don't have his results from the Society of Actuaries Score.

As far as, passing with a perfect score and it taking the next eight months to find his own job, well I don't know about that, but if the company that he works at has several openings available, and it is as easy as looking on a web site, or reading adds in the trade publications, then why did it take Andrew so long to get a job? Maybe, Andrew should have done everything that was required of him from Actuary Innovations and he could have been employed a lot sooner.

Actuary Innovations, has documentation of every candidate who's resume that we submit and to every company that we submit them to, as well. Also, Actuary Innovations has letters of reference from candidates that have taken the class and were placed as an Assistant Actuarial Analyst through Actuary Innovations efforts, as well as, letters from candidates stating how helpful Actuary Innovations has been with helping them achieve their career goals. Here are just a few of them so everyone reading this can see that Actuary Innovations doesn't make empty verbal promises.

Subject: Thank You

Hal,

I just wanted to send you a quick note of thanks for everything that you did to help me get the Actuarial Analyst job. When I first met you, I knew I wanted to pursue an actuarial career, but I wasn't really sure what I was doing. Working in your office was very helpful to me. I got to meet people who hadn't yet taken the exam, like me, along with people who had attempted it already, both successfully and unsuccessfully. I learned a lot from them. The class was helpful as well-the calculator tricks helped me to improve my speed, and I was able to complete Exam 1/P in only 2 hours. I also got tremendous benefits from tutoring the students that you set me up with. Not only could I help explain some complicated concepts to other students, but also it served as a review for me as well, and helped to keep me sharp. Also, I wanted to thank you for staying on top of things with the hiring company, during the interview process. I appreciate that you kept contacting them, reminding them about me, something that I was not in the position to do. Since I start with them next week, I just wanted to say thank you from your newest employed actuary.

Megan

Dear Hal,

It was a pleasure to meet you yesterday and today. I would like to thank you for all the time you spent talking with me about the Actuary position. I feel I learned a lot from you and I really appreciate that you took so much time to acquaint me with the different aspects of the position, the review classes, as well as the exam. I now understand what is expected of me to obtain a position as an Actuary.

I am very excited about this opportunity and I look forward to the challenge ahead. I know I will be able to come to you with any questions i may have in the future.

Respectfully,

Nicole

Mr. Butler,

I want to let you know that I enjoyed our interview session on December 15, 2008. You gave thorough explanation of Actuarial Innovations Incorporated's need for a score of six (6) or higher on Exam 1/P as administered by the Society of Actuaries before i could interview for any job openings with the companies Actuarial Innovations Incorporated services. I was surprised by how much you and Actuarial Innovations Incorporated are willing to assist prospective candidates in attaining a passing Exam 1/P score. Organizing an optional review class with a college level instructor would have been enough. But to also offer to fully reimburse the tuition of the class and only require a three month commitment to interview with the companies Actuarial Innovations Incorporated represents after passing Exam 1/P has no downside.

It was made clear that Actuarial Innovations Incorporated is not a staffing or temp
employment service but rather a recruiting company. therefore, I would not be working for Actuarial Innovations Incorporated but for the actual company where I accept a position.

Thanks Again,

Doug

Subject: interview follow up

Hal,

I'm really excited about this position. It was obvious from this morning's interview that I would be a perfect fit for both the company and the position. I feel as though I received more consideration working through you than if I had approached them individually, assuming I even discovered the opportunity to begin with. It took a lot of studying to get here, but it definitely seems worth it now. Hopefully things will keep moving this fast and I'll be employed before my official scores are even released. Thanks for everything.

Michael

As far as, Andrew knowing several Actuaries who have taken the prep class and then found positions on their own, well that is always an option, but I don't know why they would have done that, when that is part of our job.
