As an owner of an Adams Home (Alabama) I will be the first to say "NEVER AGAIN" will I purchase a property built by these folks. Lack of ethics, workmanship and just simple quality control are the norm for these folks. Many in our neighborhood have had leaking roofs, issues with flooring coming off, landscape problems, faulty wiring, the list goes on and on. We have "fixed" many items in our home such as upside down brackets in the kitchen cabinets, cross wiring in light fixtures (very dangerous), safely adding MISSING screws to light fixtures (keep them from falling on us), hammer down door screws etc. Another problem encountered is that we purchased a home "fully sodded."

To our surprise we own 9000 square feet of UNSODDED property (we wanted a gate installed on our property and the gate installer found property markers stuck in brush and trees). When we moved into our home we thought the SODDED area was complete. We trusted the builder to "fully sod" as promised in our home purchase contract (we were blessed with HONEST builders in Florida, they "FULLY SODDED" our yard). It is clearly specified in our ADAMS HOMES contract "full sod." We have been going back and forth with these folks for almost a year!

In a nut-shell they said the lot turned out to be larger than originally planned. They also said there is nothing from ADAMS HOMES specifying, "fully sodded lot." To the contrary, we have legal documentation from ADAMS HOMES stating a "full sodded lot." Our realtor was shocked that Adams Homes would blatantly misrepresent a consumer. It may cost us up to $6000 to have the rest of OUR property cleared and sodded when that's what we paid for in the first place.

We have reported them to the Better Business Bureau for misrepresentation of contract. We will also be contacting the Home Builders Licensure Board of Alabama and Home Builders Association of Alabama. I wish ADAMS HOMES would follow their mission statement of committed to building communities that exceed the expectations of today's homebuyer. Yep, they certainly exceeded our expectations in misleading the consumer! DO NOT PURCHASE FROM ADAMS HOMES. Seek a reputable builder that stands by their promise/contractual agreement.

Bermuda grass sod

AUTHOR: mmkbama - ()

Adams Homes does "typically" advertise as having "fully sodded lawns" but they probably only order enough sod for all of their "average" size lots. As long as most of your backyard is sodded all you would need to do to resolve this is go to Lowes or Home Deport and buy several bags of Bermuda grass SEED and prepare the soil in the un-sodded area, put the seeds down and keep it watered regularly until it grows and then you will have your own sod for less than $200.00-it also would not cost $6000.00 to have the rest of that area sodded as per your measurements. Also, if there was a survey done when you purchased the home (which is also very typical) then you would have known that part of the yard was not sodded and you could have requested Adams Homes do this prior to closing and they probably would have to keep the sale and if it was in the contract as you claim it was.

You can read this web site which explains how to grow Bermuda grass that you claim to need for the rest of your property: bermudagrass.com/ If your Adams Home is in Harvest, Al then Adams Homes uses Bermuda grass sod for the yards in this area as ours is in the Huntsville/Harvest area as well.
