The main recruiter, Greg Matla, is the hiring contact at Adecco's RCE call center in Rochester, NY. Greg made promises of "opportunities" in other departments if I agreed to accept the 4-6 week assignment posted on CareerBuilder. The assignment was in payroll, and the goal was to manage inbound calls for Adecco's new PeopleNet website.

During the interview process, Greg knew that I was looking for full-time, permanent work and that I was an HR graduate student nearby. My goal was to get into recruitment roles. At the end, I was chosen along with one female to complete the assignment.

Greg was extremely avoidant of responding to my requests for the next phase of my work at the RCE. After repeated attempts through emails, I asked my manager Carmen Martinez to contact him on the fourth week. I was only scheduled for 4 weeks even though the posting read 4-6 weeks.

Greg's response to Carmen was that there were no other jobs available. In a personal discussion, Carmen told me that there were major budget constraints due to corporate restructuring. Right now, Adecco is closing many branches and transferring some of the agents to the RCE.

I was consistently an hour early everyday, exceeded my job expectations, and performed well despite the lack of formal training procedures. At the end of the 4 weeks, Greg actually was able to get a project team manager, Tim Hoyt, to approve my transfer to his team. However, the original budget was only allowed for 2 more weeks (4-6 weeks in total).

At the end of the sixth week,  there were many agents in branches and client contacts who favored my performance. However, I was terminated on the last day of the 2nd week for "harrassment". The only comment made was that the female worker was "an attractive woman with great character which is hard to find. Your fiance should feel proud." There were no other comments made in any manner which could even be loosely perceived as derogatory or hostile.

I was told by the HR contact Patricia to refrain from contacting anyone at Adecco, and that there would be "other repercussions" if I did anyway. It was the grossest dismissal I ever experienced and a serious example of corporate selfishness and cover-up. Basically, I was sold on a short-term assignment by being given puffery about "possibilities" within Adecco's RCE, if I performed well.

All of the facts indicate a hidden desire to exploit a desirable candidate for company goals which are greatly unfavorable for the worker. In order to conceal their true intentions behind their actions, the RCE staff willingly deceived me and then grossly dismissed me in an unfair manner. Unfortunately, NY State does not recognize a tort of gross termination practices or unethical recruiting procedures as being illegal.

Word of advice: avoid Greg Matla and his postings and puffery if you are looking for legitimate, trustworthy work. If you decide to interview him for RCE work, then make sure to verify a guarantee of more work if he wants to offer you a contractual position. Otherwise, you are putting yourself at the mercy of a deceitful recruiter, and an industry that is reputed for exploitive recruiting behaviors.
