First I really should have not shared the "other issues" over the internet. And trust me I could more than one up you of wife health issues! However this is not the place for this. In terms of poor attitude all I can say is getting ripped off sure is a cause for this.

I am not in the boat business in any way, shape, or form. I do run a big-block Baja. We have a private dock for it.

My wife has had serious health issues since the end of 2003, and I care for her now. This is also the reason I retired, but I also got the company's very excellent retiree health insurance plan. It is great to have when we got a hospital bill of $40,400 for 4 days.

What I do not do is go around crapping on people for trying to be helpful to me when I have not explained my situation to them. Nor do I post nasty assumptions about them.

My engines have a drain point and an air point to blow the blocks fee of water. One two three! I have an oil change pump which I have used for years and if you get the rates you mentioned good job as you are just another RIP OFF. This all happened due to my 19 year old son being in a near death accident as my boat was in my drive way waiting for me to winterize.

Due to extensive injury, hospital visits, attorney's ....I was not able to do the job myself this time around. I contacted Ahlstrand and got screwed! Good job protecting your industry but you are way off base on this one. If you quote a number and stick with it good for you! However if you quote a number and don't stick with it then you hear more. I have been working on boats for over 20 years and sure would have done this myself as you suggested had I not had a child in serious condition in the hospital! Would you like to rethink your comments....................

A big block V8 has 4 or 5 drain screws, often one near the middle of the block on each side and one below each exhaust riser. Six-cylinder mills have fewer drain screws.

Drain screws on the block usually need a wrench while riser drain screws are usually removed by hand. If you have a reasonable amount of room around each mill it isn't too hard. Pour in some PG after the block & risers are drained and the screws are reinstalled, if you so wish, and you should be done in 30 minutes.

Spray fogging oil into each sparkplug hole, or into a running engine prior to draining the block, if and as you may prefer, for outside winter storage.

The effective DIY pay rate is really good, and besides you will spend 30 minutes or more simply taking the boat to the dealer and then retrieving it from them weeks later.

Clymer has good manuals for sale. Also you can contact Mercruiser, Crusader, Volvo or whomever.

Boat service shops are expensive and slow. An oil change is usually $150 to $200 per engine.

I use a Jabsco 17860-0012 (12V) to remove the old engine oil. 7 quarts of AMSOIL 20W-50 High-Performance synthetic oil and an AMSOIL SPF (super performance filter) total $42. And I only have to change that oil once a year!

PS: You want to add Sta-Bil to the gas *before* your last outing so the Sta-Bil is distrubuted throughout the fuel system. West Marine offers a VERY cost effective stabilizer, Easy Store, Easy Start. There are also excellent Gasoline and Diesel enzyme fuel additives available at West Marine.
