AIU Online Worms and viruses detected SchaumburgSchaumburg Illinois
*UPDATE Employee: Erroneous On All Counts
A worm and virus was found on the website. During the time my laptop was down. The school enrolled me a second class and would not let me drop the class. I did not know they did it until the second week into a six credit one month class. A lost two weeks of grades for the first and, second class and, I'm trying to save my F.A.S.A. Currently the school is telling I can not withdrawal until I get the finale grade. I did not receive credit for assignment I sent in three times and E- mailed my teacher. I was told the school did not recognize it as being turned in and even though she knows iI did it I will not receive credit.

#1 UPDATE Employee
Erroneous On All Counts
AUTHOR: Anonymous Advisor - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Saturday, June 14, 2008
Your claim is erroneous. Firstly, AIU Online operates on a very secure server, virtually impenetrable by viruses or worms of any kind. Secondly, the attendance policy is published in your Student Handbook, and you, of your own volition, signed it, confirming that you a) read, b) understood, and c) would adhere to all policies and procedures published within it. You can drop your classes; however, as you cannot be unregistered for classes and still remain an active student, unenrolling from your class would cause you to be withdrawn.
Furthermore, if you were trying to withdraw two days before the end of the session, then yes, you would be withdrawn after your final grade for the class is posted. Methinks, too, that you ignored your Student Advisor or probably did not contact him or her until the final week of class. Judging by your post, however, you probably didn't contact them at all.
EVERY school has published withdrawal policies. That is, you can withdraw with a "W" up to a certain point in the term. Schools on the semester system, which is usually 16-18 weeks, allow this type of withdrawal up to the end of the first week without penalty, academic or financial. After then, you may have up to the fourth week to withdraw with minimal financial penalty, and with a "W," after five weeks, you still have to pay for the class, and can receive a "W" up until the eighth week or so. After then, you either petition for a late "W," which is usually denied, or you take the grade you get. If the school is on the quarter system, the same rules apply, only at sooner points in the term. Your classes are scheduled in five-week sessions - and the same rules apply, only at sooner points in the term.
Also, you weren't just "put" into a class - your schedule is built for your entire enrollment before even click on your first class. You know what classes you are in from start to finish, and there is a downloadable academic calendar to show you when your sessions start and end.
And what is a F.A.S.A. anyway? Do you mean FAFSA? If so, you don't "save" it. It is an applicationt that helps educational institutions determine what and how much federal aid you qualify for to pay for your education.
The point is, you knew that you would be attending an online institution, which would require reliable access to the Internet. If your computer contracted a virus or a worm, the next logical thing to have done would have been to find an alternative while your computer is being repaired. You lost points/earned bad grades because you did not use your head. Simple as that.
