Al Zeigler says he sells healthy horses. I purchased a pony from him and he delivered it very sick. SERIOUSLY ill.
Al's transport service kept this pony on a trailer in hot weather for six days! I would never have agreed to that, but Al avoided returning my inquiries as to when the pony was leaving and when it would arrive, until just before the pony was to be delivered. They never would tell me the itinerary.
When the pony finally arrived, the pony had (1) shipping fever, (2) strangles, and (3) Strep. brucilosis. He also had long-standing strangles chondroids in his right gutteral pouch, which were causing a serious inflamation of the bones in his head. My vets said this pony had been sick for a very long time.
My vet and I spent a month, around the clock, caring for this pony, but he got worse and had to go to the equine hospital where he was given oxygen because his lungs were not functioning. He remained hospitalized for 29 days! I spent over $10,000.00 to save this pony's life.
Al Zeigler also gave me the exact same line: "He was healthy when he left here."
Just because you did not get a pre-purchase vet exam does not let Al off the hook, because of Al's statements that he only sells good healthy horses.

What ??

AUTHOR: Al - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 20, 2009

As your vet stated clearly to you that horses at that age are prone to get sick from being transported weather it be for 5 hours or if it is 5 days at such a young age with horses coming from the south to the north temp change can also affect this in many horses . Also it is really funny that we were never told about this when it happened or if it did really happen since you do not post your name. As far as we know this could be someone making up another story about us that is not true like the lady sticking 10 K in to a $2500.00 pony and when we delivered the pony she signed that the pony was delivered safely & in good condition. Now if it was not that way then why did she sign the paper stating this ?? I have to ask these questions but NEVER get a true answer from anyone . Also why did you sign the same paper if we really did transport a horse for you ??

Al

Mr. Ziegler seemed like a nice guy, but it concerns me that your horse arrived sick...

I had a young colt transported by Ziegler. He made a good deal, however when my colt (5 months) arrived, he refused to eat anything and was very sick for days. The vet said it was shipping fever, which can happen in any stressful situation. I was very worried for a while, but fortunately with a lot of medical care and attention, he did get better. I have worked with another transported who transported 9 horses and a mini donkey for me, and the horses stepped off the trailer like they were getting out of a stretch limo. Not a drop of sweat on any of them and all healthy and happy. I don't know what Ziegler did to make this horses sick on the trip, I'm sure a lot of factors contributed, this just caught my attention as my horse arrived the same way. That said, he seemed like a nice enough guy, gave my guy a pat (after him fighting when we went to give him on the trailer) and said good luck. (sincerely) but I'm thinking maybe he should reevaluate his transport conditions...

This is NOT True

This pony did not take 6 days to get from Iowa to California. Also this pony passed a vet check and had a clean bill of of health the same day the pony got on the trailer . Also the pony got looked at at the livestock inspection stations along the way . If this pony was so sick why did the buyer sign the paper that the pony was delivered safely & in good condition ?? Also why didn't any others on the trailer that were ours that we sold get sick ? I am thinking the pony got exposed to something at the drop off . We sell 300 horses a year and NEVER had anyone tell us one got sick.
