If you are renting a car from Alamo in Cancun, be aware that there are timeshare touts from Vida Vacation Club operating INSIDE Alamo's rental pick-up at the airport. They are identical to the people you totally ignore when being solicited in the arrivals terminal.
The Vida reps operating at Alamo play on people's trust by claiming that Vida has Alamo's endorsement. The tout will offer you a discount on the car rental if you agree to "take a 90 minute tour" at The Grand Mayan in Playa del Carmen. DO NOT ACCEPT. It's not worth losing a vation day to the hours of high-pressure sales tactics and deception that you will ultimately have to endure.
Also know that Alamo Cancun charges for a full tank of gas, no matter how much you actullay use, and may neglect to mention that. Carefully read every "option" in the contract before you initial. Have the attendant document every existing scratch and dent to the car, top to bottom, *before* you drive away. Watch out for other charges like cleaing sand from the floor of the car when you being it back. Know that your credit card will be charged for the full amount straight away. The company does not pre-authorize as is customary. You can not assume good faith dealing from Alamo Cancun.
Better maybe just to go to one of the competitors where trust is less of an issue.

One month now since Alamo "sought the opportunity" to look into this. One month now of e-mail exchanges with varioius typists and copy-paste employees. The complaint has now been elevated so many times that it is oxygen deprived. Alamo really doesn't care. Evidently, the Vida Vacation Club touts operating inside the Alamo Cancun rental pickup office continue to deliver unsuspecting Alamo customers to the timeshare scam aritits opertating at Vidanta Resort in Playa del Carmen. It must be a very profitable relationship indeed if Alamo continues to allow this abuse of its customers' trust in the Alamo brand name. Shame on Alamo.
