I was planing a trip to Alaska and wanted to do some fishing for a day near Anchorage. I had contacted several places about a day trip for 2 adults. Since we were flying in we needed transportation from our hotel to the fishing site. This proved to be difficult, everyone seemed to want you to travel to them and no one offered any pick-up or drop-off service. I was refered to Alaska Fishing Excursions by one of the other fishing guides and was given the phone number and website for Mike Bianchi at Alaskafishingexcursions.com; I reviewed the website and it looked professional and sounded great, so I called and spoke with Mike and we discussed the trip and other things and he even said that for an extra $100 he would drive the extra hour back and forth to come pick us up and drop us back off at the hotel. He wanted me to send him a non-refundable deposit of $225 via check in the mail for just half of the fishing trip. He wanted my email address so that he could send me more information. He then sent me an email a few days later with infomation and also asked me some additional questions about wader sizes, food on the trip etc...I responded back via email to him with answers to his questions and also asked a couple of more questions of my own. After about 2 weeks later, I had not gotten an response back via email acknowleding receipt of the email or the check I had sent to him in the mail. I thought that maybe he didn't get my email, so I resent the email and also asked if had gotten my check because it had not been received by my bank yet (I thought maybe got lost in the mail). A few more days went by with no response, so I called the contact phone number (supposed to be his cell phone). No answer but I left a nice voicemail asking him to call me to confirm the trip and if he had gotten my check and/or email. A few more days passed with no response back. I called again and left another voice mail....no response. So I then emailed and left another voicemail advising him that since he could not contact me back with regards to payment or trip confirmation, that I was cancelling the trip and that I placed a stop payment on the check (Cost me $35). It is now still 2 days before the fishing trip and I have not gotten any type of response or acknowlegement from him or his company. Seems like a....send me your money and then no contact scam to me...fortunately he didn't cash or deposit my check...which is what is weird....his loss.

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company
Fraud? Rip Off? Hardly the case.
AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, July 23, 2009
The saying "You can't please all of the people all of the time" seems quite relevant in this case.
I won't dispute that after the initial e-mails between "Tigger" and myself that there was a lapse in communication. I WILL however dispute that this was in any form an attempt to defraud or in any other way "rip-off" the clients. Quite simply put, I was in the field almost continuously from the last week of May until July 19th. I am not offering any excuses, this is a one man show as I am the owner and guide, however given our short season and the logistics involved with being in remote, plane accessible only locations, sometimes one cannot respond as quickly as either party would prefer.
Most of the trips we do are multiple day, remote fly out trips. There is no internet or cell phone to be had. Would I have liked to have responded to "Tigger" in a more timely fashion? Absolutely! Could I? Unfortunately, no.
I had a 2 day break in mid June in which I HAD planned to cement the 1 day trip that "Tigger" had booked for himself and his friend. When I arrived home, and after getting to see my Wife and Child for the first time in weeks, I found both "Tigger's" e-mails and voicemails awaiting me. To be quite blunt, after hearing and reading the tone of the final calls/e-mails, I decided that perhaps folks with such an attitude would be better off booking their trips with another company.
The fact that "Tigger" had stopped payment did not phase me in the least, as I generally do not deposit checks until all final arrangements have been made. Had I, as "Tigger" falsely claims, intended to "Rip-Off" he and his companion, why was that check never cashed/deposited?
Here is a client that seems to have had a quite enjoyable time last season. SO much so that he took the time to write up a trip report upon his return: http://www.wcflyfishers-ore.com/pdffiles/FlyLineAugust2008.pdf
Again, it was never my intent to defraud, or in any way take money for services not rendered. And as the facts here show, I did not. I merely was trying to please all of the people all of the time.....And sometimes, that simply isn't possible.
