Alco Glass & Mirror ripoff Company cancalled my paycheck then made illegal deductions Berkley Michigan

I worked for Alco Glass & Mirror for one year. In that year, myself and other employees were verbally abused, threatened, and had illegal deductions taken out from our paychecks.

when I recieved my last paycheck, I deposited it into my bank account. A few days later I was told by my bank that a stop payment was issued on my check. Not only was I out a paycheck now, but my bank charged me a $25 NSF charge.

Once I found out that my check was stopped, I went to Alco Glass to see what the problem was. When I arrived I gave them 1 last chance to set things right. Instead of admitting they were wrong and giving me my check back, one of the sisters threatened to call the police on me and told me to read my handbook, and then proceded to throw me out of the building.

What did she mean by "read your handbook"? Well, according to the handbook, you (the employee) are responsible for errors, breakage, and anything else that Alco Glass & Mirror sees fit to charge you. Each employee is required to sign this.

However, According to Michigan law, any deductions other than the standard taxes, child support, ect. MUST require a signature, amount deducted, and time duration every time an additional deduction is made, regardless of signing a handbook. Also it states that if you are an hourly employee (which I was) they cannot charge you for these things. Only if you are a sub-contractor can they do this.

So, once I left, I contacted the Michigan Dept. of Labor Relations and they are conducting an investigation into this matter.

A few weeks go by and I recieved a paycheck. However this check had invoices attached to it and had approx $500.00 deducted from it for orders that I supposedly goofed up. The funny thing is, some of these orders go way back (about 3-4 months) when I was working there. I ask you this, why all of a sudden was I charged for mistakes when I left and not while I was currently working there? And also, why would they have given me my last paycheck initally without any deductions taken out then stopped the check?

I was a model employee. I showed up on time, performed my work to the best of my ability, and always had a positive attitude and very curtious.

Currently the Michigan Dept. of Labor Relations is working on this case, but they say it will take months to get my money. The purpose of this report is to let you know what kind of company this is.

I would like people to know how these people run their business and how bad they treat their employees. They have no respect for others and try to cheat people out of their hard earned money. They make you believe that they ARE the law, and they make up their own laws and do what they want. They run their company with an iron fist and make their employees afraid to stand up to them.

Well I'm not taking it anymore. So that was my experience, and I encourage anyone who reads this to think about others who may have had experiences like this to take a stand. Employees have rights too.
