I was down in Seattle for work and needed a cell phone that would transfer with me back to Alaska when the job was done (approximately 6 months). I spoke to an account representative at a T-Mobile kiosk which i have later come to find out was owned by Alert Cellular. This was back in 2008. I moved back to Alaska and continuously got dropped calls, missed voicemails and dropped texts due to the fact that T-Mobile was using both At&T and GCI cell phone towers, so every time it would switch from one to another it would drop a call, not send a text, miss an incoming call, etc. I contacted T-Mobile and told them i had been promised true nationwide coverage and had even been shown a map of Alaska where i would receive "excellent" coverage but alas, had not. To T-Mobile's defense they let me out of my contract with the standard certified letter and 2 proofs of change in state residence.

Fast forward 3 years and i receive a letter from URG (United Recovery Group) stating that i owe $350.00 and if its not paid it will go to collections. I called said company and spoke with a guy named Rob who said it could be that T-Mobile let me out of my contract but the kiosk was still charging me for their services ( they had done nothing since the initial sign up) so i should try and contact T-Mobile and then once i figured it out to contact URG back. After repeated attemts to contact T-Mobile, they said my account had been closed for so long they couldn't pull me up via social, name, billing address or phone number. In their eyes my account was paid in full and the case closed.

I recontacted URG after about a week had gone by and the amount now after interest and late fees had gone up to $483.00! I spoke with someone named Lani Cross, claiming to be the only supervisor and the highest individual at that company under the owner (who would not speak to me because i was a "debtor") I tried explaining my situation and was constantly interupted and told that i was "in debt" and that they were doing me a favor allowing me to make payments and that most people just have the $350.00 cash laying around to pay in a lump sum. I was hung up on when i asked to speak to her supervisor because she was rude and continuously interupted me and was tiold she "didn't have time to put up with me getting upset, either i paid the amount or not" (wouldnt you be upset if this charge came out of the blue over 3 years after fully closing an account?) and "she was tired of me getting my blood pressure up" even though she actually yelled at me on the phone! (I have both a witness and the conversation recorded)

Due to the fact that i want to keep my high credit score i am paying the amount because there doesnt seem to be anything i can do to dispute it. All my research has shown Alert cellular to be bankrupt and T-Mobile wont do anything because i no longer have an account through them. I also researched this URG and Better Business Bureau rates them an "F", I wonder why?
