On 6/23/2014 I arrived at Alexandria Motors to test drive and purchase a used 2008 BMS 535xi as pictured below:
Prior to making the 2 hour drive I telephoned them to confirm the availability of the car and its price. It is listed with a sale price of $18,777. I arrived at the dealership around 4 pm and was greeted by "Jason", a salesperson.
About half way through the test drive, "Jason" decided he wanted to drive and then floored it the entire way back to the dealership where another potential buyer was waiting.
I was pushed aside while Jason proceeded to show the car to the next in line. Eventually, I found my way to the finance manager's office where the real fun begins.
I simply say that I have $6000 downpayment, a credit score of 650+ and would like to negiotiate a price before we continue, contingent upon a clean CarFax report. After attempting to pull my credit reports before settling on a price, the finance manager responds by stating that the asking price of the car is $19,900, not $18,777 as advertised on a popular used car website. I inform him that I confirmed the sale price of $18,777 before making the drive there. He reluctantly agrees to "honor" the lower price, while acting as if he is doing me a favor by doing so.
After some negiotiation, I offered them the FULL ASKING PRICE of $18,777 and was refused. First, there was a "processing fee" of a seemingly unknow amount. The best I could tell, it was around $500. I refused to pay the additional fee(s) and the "finance manager" once again reluctantly agreed to "waive" the fee.
Keep in mind this is BEFORE any credit repeort is even pulled. Next, I am informed that there will be an "acquisition" fee, once again of a mysterious amount. Still not having seen a real CarFax report, I refused to pay this hidden fee, and demanding to see the report.
While the report was printing, the manager conveniently informed me that there had been an accident reported in the vehicle's history. The report did not go into more detail and it could have been minor, however Alexandria Motors came forward with the damage report information only after multiple demands to produce the information were made.
I stood firm on my FULL offer of the advertised price of $18,777 and was REFUSED. Shame on you Alexandria Motors Virginia of 3030 Duke Street!
